I am not a computer person at all. I bought a Tazer Mini as it was to be the easiest way to change tire and gears and TPMS. I have read the instructions more than once on line and I still don't really get it. Some of the terms are confusing. Marry, un marry, reboot, and all the rest. Having to type out all my questions to Z is a pain. When I un marry it do I loose all the changes made to my JT? Do I have to do this before I take it in for service? I find the instructions and the method of changing things in the JT to be awkward and confusing . I wish there was a phone # to talk to a live person about it. If I do things wrong what is the worst that can happen?
How will I know if I have the correct tire size selected to get the speed o correct? The TPMS is another issue, 25PSI is all that Jeep will see? I feel like I am in way over my head on this thing.

I don't have a direct answer for you but I can tell you that once you understand the manner in which it works it's pretty awesome. One day a spent a good hour of trial and error until I finally understood how to flip through the option. IMHO the hardest part is understanding how to initiate the damned thing without it going back to the stock menu again. AKA frustration city. Here are some great instruction videos.

As for taking it in for service... I left mine in once, because I used the option that require the tazer to remain connected (auto-start disable) and the dealership did a flash without telling me ahead of time and it screwed up the ECU so bad they thought they had to replace it. I told them about the tazer being connected and after shaking their heads in shame (because they didn't check) they got everything back to normal. They said that the tazor being connected is common practice and doesn't void the warranty.

The features you listed as needed are not "live" functions, so you don't need to keep the Tazer connected for those to continue to function. I use mine for the same things (tire size, gears + LED headlight/taillights, AUX switches), I don't keep it plugged in and I haven't had any issues with dealer service.

It is not that hard. I have unmarried and married mine a number of times.

One thing to watch. I have a Tazer JL and a Tazer mini. (Long story as to how I have both). The Tazer mini drains the battery if it sits more than a day or two. Completely drains it. My brother had the Tazer mini in his Gladiator, and it is the same deal.

I will be updating to the latest firmware to see if it still does it, but just keep an eye on that. There was much debate as to if it was happening, but I confirmed 100%. It did it on my ex-wife's 2022 Wrangler, then on my 2018 JL, and now a different one on my brother's Gladiator. So two units, same issue. If you drive them every day, you probably won't notice it. Of course, if you have the right firmware, hopefully it won't do it at all.

My Taser Mini is always connected and doesn't have a noticeable battery drain, at least with whatever firmware was pushed out around April (haven't updated since). My JT sits for 2 weeks without driving, fairly regularly.

My question is, if I remove the Taser, do I plug it back into whatever it was plugged into before, or just leave the dongle hanging?

You need to plug it back in. In my experience, my UConnect/radio system stayed black and inoperable without the original connection.

Tazer has been plugged in for 8 months and everything has been running just fine, at least with the radio. That said, if unplugging from original location was the reason I stopped getting text and email spam from Jeep, for a useless app that told me how much gas I had, then I consider that a bonus.

Thanks. I'll have the gear installer do the setting for the gears. I'll play with the tire setting and then remove it. I can live with ESS but not dead batteries. Probably not touch the TPMS as I have live with it and can do some more.

All the info I see says that the BFG KO2 37-12.50-17 C says it's 36.5 in diameter. Is that what I set the Tazer at for correct speedo.

Even assuming the same tires... If you want to be precise, it'll be particular to your truck. Everyone loads the bed differently, from completely empty to way over GWVR, with tire pressures, temperatures, altitudes all over the place. All those factors affect the distance from the rear hub to the ground, which is what matters here.

You can start with whatever number you guess at (36.5 might be fine) and then measure the error. I used my phone but if you have a standalone GPS that's even easier. With a phone, make sure it's not connected to the truck (plugged in, or wirelessly if you have a wireless box like a Carlinkit) - otherwise the phone will pull GPS and speed info from the vehicle. You need the phone to be the independent ground truth.

Use some app that can do GPS distance traveled (Gaia, OnX, MotionX-GPS, etc). Start a track and reset a trip odometer. Go for a normal daily drive, commute, shopping, whatever. Note the trip odometer and the GPS track distance and do some math... I'll go into this if you like, but right now I won't type it all out unless someone really wants instructions.

Anyway after a few rounds of measuring trips, adjusting the tazer, you'll be within a percent or so (and be an expert in the Tazer's super clunky programming and rebooting interface). No point trying to get better than a percent or two, as it will vary that much just with the weather.

The instructions say before a dealer visit the tazer should be un married and removed. won't that change all the settings, gears and tires, back to factory settings? That's not going to work well.

The recommendation from ZAutomotive is to unmarry the Tazer before taking it to the dealer. Some just unplug it with no apparent issues.

When the Tazer is married to the vehicle, it takes a snapshot of all the settings. When it is unmarried, it restores the settings back to that state. It is a good idea to keep a list of all the changes made so that they can be entered again.

If you are not buying the Tazer for the 'live' features, Jscan is an easier and less expensive option for making changes. Some Tazer owners are using Jscan to make the changes before marrying the Tazer. This preserves their settings when removing it for service, and doesn't require entering them again.

So If you un marry it the tire and gear settings will go back to factory. If you have 4.88s and 37s and the jeep thinks it has 4.11s and 33s won't that cause a limp mode? Gear shops require a device to change the settings at the time of install. Someone is wrong.

It does seem odd, I don't have a good answer for you. Tire settings will just cause the speedometer to be off. All I know about the Tazer is what I've read here from those that own one. I don't own one, and have no plans to ever purchase one.

It's the diff gear settings that mess you up. The pulses from the ABS vs inf from the trans just doesn't line up. Had I known what I know I would have not bought mine.
