Good afternoon all. I have a 21 JT Sport S with the 4.10's. I am about to install a 2.5" Lift and 37" Tires on 17x8.5 -6mm wheels. Did I just mess up and should have went with 35's?

I'm running 2.5 inch ready lift on mine with stock wheels and 37s and 4.10 gears and mine does great.

37s with 4.10 aren’t fine, at least they weren’t for me. If you can’t afford the regear, go with 35s.

You'll be fine. Its gonna be slower for sure but the 4.10's roll the 37's ok. I'm on 0 offset with 37's and 410's and still get 14.5 mixed with a lead foot.

Also for the guy asking, the backspace is 4.5.Take the size of the rim (8.5) then divide by 2 (4.75) and then add the offset. So 4.75 + -.25" (-6mm converted) gives you the 4.5.

Maybe I'm missing something here? Take rim width and divide by 2 to get the back spacing. 8.5/2 = 4.75? Isn't that 4.25? add the offset of -.25 so it would be 4 right?

I am running 37 inch milestar Patagonia tires with a 2.5 inch lift on a gladiator rubicon with 4:10 gears and it’s fine it will move right on down the road no problems and it rides great I recalibrated my speedometer and the shift points with the Rough Country recalibration meter

Is the highway shifting as bad as some people make it out to be?

I'm averaging 17.2 mpgs to 17.4 mpgs local driving and we got 18.3 on our way to the beach. They do great for me. Towed about 4000lbs with it a few weeks back and it fine as well. I haven't saw under 17 since I put them on in February, 14,000 miles so far. I went with the Lighter Goodyear Kevlar MTRs

Maybe I'm missing something here? Take rim width and divide by 2 to get the back spacing. 8.5/2 = 4.75? Isn't that 4.25? add the offset of -.25 so it would be 4 right?

I left out the extra .5 after dividing by 2. Good catch I've updated my post.

I have the heaviest 37 combo on the market. Ridge Grapplers and Black Rihno. I does just fine. So what's the difference in 7th and 8th gear ? I really can't tell. I don't think it needs gears. 20K mi. 19 mpg at 60-70. 15 mpg at 80-85. I will swap them for a light weight Method Wheel and a C rated BFG 37/12.5/37 and drop 28 lbs per wheel soon. I will never go smaller than 37 the JT just looks terrible I think.

Is the highway shifting as bad as some people make it out to be?

It’s not that the shifting is a problem it that you will never see 8th gear and rarely 7th unless it’s very flat and you have a tailwind. 4.10:1 with 37s is roughly equal to 33s with 3.55 iirc. There’s a reason they don’t make a JT with 3.55 gears. With 2 overdriven gears you can go deeper in the diffs and still get the benefits of overdrive for at least respectable fuel mileage, or so I hear. I don’t care and don’t track mine. I do know with 5.13 gears it’s got plenty of get and go and does fine cruising on the highway in 8th gear at 75-80 mph with plenty of power to kick down and pass as necessary.

We all have the same machine. We live at different places and do our own driving. So it's personal preference. My truck with me driving is great. It does not need gears.

I will be angst free Thursday afternoon. I feel like a responsible Jeep owner. I coulda bought cool stuff to make my Jeep look cooler, but I went with 4.88. That counts as responsible right?

Just got mine done today, 4.88 also. Should pick up tomorrow.

Man, I am all jealous. I plan to wheel Friday. Mine were "hot ran" according to the shop. Just keep it under 70 for the first 500 miles is what they said.
