I’m getting ready to order the 1.5” leveling kit and have been watching install videos and going through the comment sections. I’m seeing a lot of suggestions about needing longer control arms and an alignment afterwards. Any info is appreciated. I am new to the off-road world and playing around with suspension components.

"Need" can be a strong word. I think the arms are more of a preference, depending on what you're doing.
An alignment on the other hand... any time you go loosening and tightening things in the front end you should redo the alignment. Especially when you're actively changing the geometry. Changing ride height will alter your camber, causing uneven tire wear.

Kept the OEM control arms and no issues, did do an alignment though considering how much I messed with the front end to get them in.

With a 1.5 level, you don't really need to change anything. Maybe think about shocks?

2+ is when ya wanna think about new front LCAs and some adjustable track bars...

I used the Terraflex 1.5" leveling kit and the Mopar lift kit lower control arms. Well pleased with the results, didn't need to do an alignment, just re-centered the steering wheel and everything was good.

Maybe the extended lower control arms make it better, but I had 1.5" Teraflex level kit on my then 2020 Rubicon JT and really did not like it. Firmed it up too much and every pot hole or expansion crack jarring.

Everybody says that it stiffens up a lot, but isn't it just an old school spring spacer? Spring rate should stay the same, so the main difference would be weight distribution, which shouldn't be much. What am I missing as I try to figure out the cause?

I have not geeked out nor care to on figuring out the why. I just know that many if not most move away from a spacer lift pretty quick as there is no free lunch vs. a proper full spring lift. Plus you are doing the same amount of work for putting in either.

Not saying they do not have their place or fans, just not something I recommend for anybody that has not experienced them before as the value proposition is debatable.

Not to mention , I have read post somewhere of spacers shifting or moving under heavy articulation especially in Rubicon models where the front sway bar can disconnect. I dont know hoe true that is but spring based lift has to be the better option which is why I skipped over spacers .
Although @Hootbro I gotta admit ,I do like free lunch 🤭😂🌮🥪🍕🍔🍜

I used them when I was a teen with a $200 truck with sagging springs and you could buy a set of spacer blocks for $19.95 at the local farm store. Or find them in the junk yard for $5.

Have been running the 1.5" Teraflex spacer for 3 years / 32K miles.

Ride quality to me seemed unchanged after. I actually bought the spacer instead of springs because i didnt want to fool with ride quality.

I bought the Mopar lower control arms to add some caster but never installed them. Still sitting in shed. Truck drives fine.

Did not need longer shocks.

Did not need an alignment. The only thing you mess with is the steering wheel alignment and you can fix that by adjusting the drag link yourself. Loosen the collar and rotate it until the wheel is straight.

I had the Teraflex 1.5” leveling kit installed at a shop (I’m 75 and preferred to pay the 2 hours of labor.) The installation did stiffen up the ride a wee bit, but I don’t find it objectionable. The alignment was necessary, and showed the caster slightly out. I’m sticking with the stock tires size, so the caster isn’t likely to be an issue.

Changing ride height will alter your camber, causing uneven tire wear.
The word you're looking for is caster. You cant adjust camber on a Jeep. While camber will effect tire wear, caster doesnt.
