I totally agree. Ace Upper Decker for me but same concept. I've now modified my upperdecker so it is 99% car-wash water proof and 99.9% highway driving water proof. Loading an ATV up top is next. Have the parts. Just need time and balls cause if it doesn't work I'm probably going to have an expensive fail...

I almost bought one of these instead of the DB and it’s probably more secure just by the sheer weight.

This is the perfect textbook example of "because it's a jeep thing". I'm sure we won't ever see eye to eye on it, and that's ok. The great thing is anything you might want is available. Jeeps have to do seemingly dichotomous things at once, balancing old with new. A lot of vehicles don't have locking gas caps, btw. That's not quite standard across the board. But I don't think anyone familiar with jeeps would expect it standard. We don't even have power windows or locks standard. Wranglers don't have AC standard. And it's because people explicitly want vehicles that way.

Isn't it immediately obvious? The latches are on the outside. This is my first modern jeep (last was a 97 TJ). I kind of just assumed it wouldn't have a hood lock or locking gas door.
The parts department will absolutely sell you the locks you seek, for not too much, dough, by the way. $200 gets you a genuine Mopar hood lock and gas door lock.

Yep, I have both in my plan...I asked the dealer to put on the hood lock before I take delivery, but he said their process requires delivery first so I have to make a special trip back, no big deal, he put a note in my contract that they will do it.

The Gas cap I can handle myself LOL...In the old days I did most of my own car-work and i could handle the hood lock too, but my mechanical skills are stale (I know, it is an easy job) and I rather have them do it and put it under warrenty.

Had my Glad 48 hours. Went to drive it, check engine came on. Drove around block and parked it. Looked for anything obvious, found nothing. Thought I would check gas cap... Holy crap someone stole the gas cap, cut the little plastic lanyard and took the cap. Why would someone need a Glad gas cap??? Bought Mopar lock cap to replace.
I got the locking gas cap too - did you figure anything out for re-tethering the locking one, or do you just rest it on the truck bed?
Which Mopar L-gas cap did you Folks get, the one for $24 wich comes with a key, or the one for $80 which gets "keyed" to your truck key?

I didn’t want to get too elaborate with it so I just went with the $24 one that came with it’s own key.

I’ve had locking gas caps before, even drilled a hole in it so I could tether the thing, but I’d have an error code pop up due to an evap leak or something.

All the locks in the world will not stop a determined thief. At best, you might slow them down a bit.
Of course. I always tell people… banks still get robbed despite way more layers of security and protection than I can put on a house or truck… you just try to make it a little tougher on them, so they have to make more noise so you can hear them and address the situation, that kind of thing.

I got the one that is keyed to the vehicle key. I keyed it myself. It's not real difficult, but you have to be careful, you only get one shot at it.
I think I'll get one of each, if I "blow" the one which I have to key, I'll just use the other one...Does the one you have to key come with Instructions?

I think it did come with instructions, it has been a couple years. There are YT videos that walk you through it. You just have to verify the pins are correct before pushing the cylinder into the gas cap. Once it is in, it cannot be removed without destroying the cylinder and cap.

Thanks that is an AWSOME vid...But after watching it, I'm going to let the dealer do it (my "thumbs" are not quite as nible as they use to be - lol). I have to bring the truck in to get the hood lock anyway...

I'll just get the 24$ one at first to hold me over till I bring the truck in post delivery.

My Belgian Malinois waiting to greet people from dollar general that want to fuck around the Mustang. Could leave the keys in it if I wanted.

Sorry I cannot make fun of Dollar General if it's all I could see from my old driveway I guess.
