If you’re on the fence about 35s, then just get them. Skip 33s, don’t even waste your time/money with them if you like the idea of 35s….especially on that mopar 2” lift.

Then once you get the 35s on, I’ll see you over in the “Can I run 37s on stock 3.73 gears” thread ?

edit: skinny 35s as others have stated since you don’t have wide axles, aftermarket wheels, or wheel spacers

Watching as I am in the same situation and contemplating between 33. & 35's. I like the idea of 35's but living in the North ga area there are plenty of hills and am worried with the 3.73's.
I also flat tow it so that is brought into the mix to make it more complicated.

You could do 35x10.50 or 35x11.50 tires. Tire choices will be limited though.

I had 35x12.50 on stock wheels without wheel spacers for about a week, but I have 8" wide stock wheels and wide axles. There was no rubbing when turning full lock on the road. I don't know if anyone has tried to run 12.50 on the 7.5" wide wheels and narrower axles. I searched a little here and couldn't find anyone doing it.
I just put on the below tires after moving from the Wildpeaks. So far they have been fantastic with a few thousand miles on them. They are not true 34's though as they measure out at around 33.5 which is close enough. I have not had any drop in MPG but they are much quieter than the Wildpeaks. I had wanted to go more Pizza cutter and with limited options this worked out

My JTR came with 285s, gone. 315s were good, then came the Method 0 off set wheels. Then the 315s went to a friend and the 37's are on . with the Mopar 2 inch lift I love the 37's. They are just a little narrower than the 315s so they clear even flexed. The 4.88 gears made it like new again with 8th gear at 50+. This thing is finally where I want it. Just want the Accutune Fox shocks for the rear float.

I definitely don't want new wheels or spacers so I think that tips the scale for me to the 285s. Thanks to all for the input!
You can do 35 x 11.5 x 17 with factory wheel and don't need spacers.

285 is only 11.2" wide.

Most 35s are closer to 12.5" wide, so about 1.3" wider which is significant.

And you have the wide axles, OP doesn't. That another 3/4" per side.
I do not have wide axles. I have a sport with out the max tow package.

Quick question, I'm going to install the Mopar 2 inch lift on my 2021 Willys JT and am considering tire upgrades. I'm looking at 285/70R17 vs. 35x12.5R17 and think I would prefer the extra ground clearance from the 35's. Any pros or cons I should consider?
285/70R17's are just a hair under 33" and will fit with no lift, just look up anyone on here running Rubi takeoff wheels/tires. If you put the 2" lift on there (which most say provides more than 2" if you aren't running a heavy bumper, winch, etc.) then the 285 70's will look small.

That’s the setup I have with narrow axles and I clear everything as well. Except I have a Clayton 2.5 lift

I have a 21 Sport with stock wheels and I am running 35 12.50 17s with a 3.5" lift. Everything works like factory, plenty of room for stuffing the tires in the fender wells. I re-geared to 4.88 to get the gearing back to where it should be. The 35s fit the factory storage under the bed without rubbing the track bar. Anything bigger would cause concern. I have the manual 6 speed, which requires the regear from the factory 3.73s. They say the auto transmission is ok without regearing, but it holds the gears longer and sometimes you may never see 8th gear. So you will probably want to regear eventually. With the 4.88s I can move up to 37s with no problem, once they come up with a way to easily remove the spare from the roof, or taking up space in the bed.

I purchased a new ‘23 Willys a couple months ago. I didn’t go for a Rubi because this will be my daily driver and have a well built JK for the trails. It came with (wretched IMHO) BFG KM2s in 255/75 R17s (32.1”). I swapped them out immediately for BFG KO2s in 285/75 R17s. They are virtually 33s (32.8”) and work perfectly for my intended use. 285s are the stock spec for Rubicons, no worries. I could probably fit up to a small 37 with this setup but I don’t want the hassle on a DD. I have Nitto Trail grappler 37s on TR beadlocks on my JK.

Now, of course nothing is ever easy when changing tire sizes. I used JScan and iCar to reset the speedometer. With the 285s it was off about 1.5 - 2 mph at 60. I had to get a security bypass cable off Amazon to make it go but its dead on the money at 70.

I ran 285/75r17 on my Overland with the JKS lift and stock sport wheels. Lots of room, no rubbing anywhere when disconnected up front, I did have 2 inch bump stop extensions. Very nice middle ground between the 33 and 35.

Also remember the 35x10x17 option, which is the 255/85R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT. They measure 34.6" actual diameter, and they are an excellent all-around tire. I run them on my JKRX and love them.

I just put M/T Baja Boss A/T LT255/85R17 (35x10.00R17) on my unlifted Sport Max Tow on take-off JLR rims. The manufacturer's stated diameter and tread width are accurate and they raised the differentials about 1.75" at 45psi over the stock 245/75R17 Duellers at 36psi.

So far I'm very happy with them. They are load range E but even at 45psi the ride is acceptable to me. They might produce a little more road noise than the stock tires but not much. If I wanted a cushy ride I'd drive something else. Tread width is 8.6", not all that much narrower than the 9.2" found on some 35x12.50s and a good deal wider than the stock Dueller's 7".

I haven't seen any rubbing yet. They might rub the outer lip of the front Sport Max Tow fenders if the bump stop compresses an inch or so, then the fender liner if it compresses much further. There's plenty of clearance in other directions.
