I prefer running without a bed cover, but, living out here in Nebraska, I am thinking I should get an inexpensive one for the winter months. We can get a lot of snow and wanted to prevent it from weighing me down.

Thoughts on just running a tonneau cover over winter?

I've ran one on every truck that I have owned both winter and summer. I have not had any issues with any of them.

I would think the cover type/material would depend on how often you would be clearing off the snow. If you got a soft top it might not hold enough weight.

I've had no problems for two winters with the Mopar roll up one.

I don't think shipping wouls be justifiable, but I can check for you.
Yeah, it's probably a pretty good sized box, thanks though

I've been using a Rugged Ridge tri-fold soft top for 3 years, year-round, and it's has held up well. Simple to install and remove. I'm in Iowa. Our winters are pretty similar to yours.

I had covers on both my ZR2 and now on my JTR. I removed the covers and installed a SoftTopper canopy on both vehicles and I run them year round. I initially thought I would use the flat covers in the summer and the SoftTopper in the winter but I found that the SoftTopper was so perfect for my needs I run it year round. They are water tight, very light, do not interfere much with visibility while driving, and are very well made. You might want to look at them as an alternative.

I’ve been using a cheap, sub-$200 Tyger roll-up one from Amazon for the last 3 years. I’ve taken zero care of it and it’s finally gotten a small tear on the one side close to the tailgate. It’s held several inches of snow, and I throw a blanket across it and roll my hard top onto the rails when I take it off myself (Probably not recommended).

On hot days, it has a tendency to flip up along the tailgate. Likely my own fault as the clamps are for a Chevy Colorado (limited market for the JT when I bought it) so the rails tend to spread apart a little.

Didn’t take long to install, so would be a fine candidate to remove seasonally.
It does roll up into a roughly 4” diameter cylinder at the front of the bed, costing virtually no bed space whether you’d choose to leave it on, or toss it with the bed rails in a corner of the garage/shed/attic/etc.

Not sure if it would tick all of the boxes you’re looking for, I know I didn’t hype it up very much but I’ll likely be replacing it with another if that says anything. Only other option I’d try is a hard roll-up.

I've got a Gator soft tri-fold. Two winters in Northern NH without a problem, though I do try to clear it off every 12-18 inches. But your only reason for wanting one is the weight of the snow? I usually try to add some weight in the bed of my trucks during the winter. Way better traction. I've been known to dump a tractor bucket or 2 of heavy snow in the bed of my Ram for that reason. The gladiator gets at least a few 50lb bags of sand.

Not sure what you mean by cheap....I bought a Rough Country trifold cover, it's aluminum and it folds back to the third partition only. Still, it's pretty rugged, and it doesn't leak, and it was pretty easy to install. I've encountered some hail damage, but to me that gives it some character and I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon. It cost me about $700 delivered, not sure what they are now.

Man, that is a lot of snow! We haven't had anything like that in quite a few years.

I was saying, "inexpensive". Doesn't always mean cheap - but I suppose it could be
