Tonneau Cover leaks dust

I have the factory Mopar hard tri-fold cover.

I have the same Mopar 3 section hard cover (2020 Gladiator dealer installed at purchase) and am very happy with the product. My experience indicates the dust is probably coming through the tailgate/bed gap at the bottom of the tailgate - not around the cover itself. I found that my items near the tailgate were getting wet when driving in heavy rain and realized it was blowing in under the tailgate from the circular push vortex that develops behind the truck when driving. I installed the RealTruck Extang Maxseal truck bed tailgate seal and voila - no water or dust.
My cover was reinstalled after i installed a drop in bedliner and a truck cap seal was added along the front edge as well.

Tailgate seal is installed on the edge of the bed where it meets the tailgate so that it is slightly compressed by the tailgate closing against it. It's been in place for almost three years. Go slow on the install and peel the liner as you check the fit with the tailgate and work your way around the opening.

Finally got to take my Mojave out on a desert trail this weekend. Super fun. However, I realized when I got back that my tonneau cover apparently leaks dust! I have a factory Mopar hard cover (lifts in 3 sections). It came with the vehicle, new. I mean, the whole back and the chairs I had back there were thickly coated in a layer of dust. Has anyone else had this issue? The whole point is to protect the items back there!

The dust leak comes from the tailgate gaps, especially the bottom one. Get a long towel or similar and roll it up and stuff it in the gap on dusty trails. It helps. Not sure the name but there is a company that makes a product to close that gap. Look on some of the after market truck bed cover sites for it.

I used a seal on my 2015 GMC tailgate. Worked well.

I used Rok Block on mine. They have a kit that includes the side bulb seal and bottom "thresh hold"
seal. I used some of the extra bulb seal and sealed both inside and outside side edges of the tailgate. I also spent some time covering all the holes in the bed with aluminum tape or rubber plugs, including around the lower cargo loops. So far I have had less dust getting in than I did on the JK I used to have.

Your entire bed leaks dust. There is no weather seal around the tailgate and there are holes in the bed itself for various hardware or just as part of the manufacturing process. Dustproofing a truck bed is a giant PITA. Put your gear in good boxes and duffels, then use a portable compressor with a blower wand to blast off all the dust.

Andrew St. Pierre White (4xOverland) did a video years ago where he tried to dusproof a ute tray, he was cutting up sponges and soaking them in mineral oil before stuffing them into the voids between the inner and outer panels of the bed. He added weather stripping around the tailgate, added extra weather stripping where the topper met the bed sides, you name it. Dust still got in.

I bought some Apache cases from Harbor Freight, added some weather stripping to my Action Packers, and pack my clothes in a waterproof duffel.
