Changed the oil and filter in my ‘22 Rubicon the other day, and absentmindedly dumped an entire 5 quart jug of Pennzoil into it.

My dipstick now shows the oil level to be just above the metal tip, and onto the braided wire shaft of the dipstick. So, oil is above the crosshatched part, but not significantly so.
I see my options as:
1. Leave as is; it’ll be fine
2. Try to drain a little oil by loosening the oilpan’s plug a bit (potentially making a mess)
3. Dump all oil, and refill with 4.5 quarts as a starting point, like I usually do.

Jeep will sit where it is for now, until I decide what to do. Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

It calls for five Quarts. Leave it, it is fine. The dip stick is not a precise measuring instrument.

Did you start it and let the oil circulate before checking the level?

On this and my prior JT I have always just dumped in what it calls for. In this case, 5 qts.

Come to think of it, I do that with any vehicle I own.

It's fine.

I'm gonna be honest.

Last time I changed the oil in the Jeep I didn't even pull the dipstick after the change.

It calls for five quarts, I dumped in one five quart jug.

It didn't land on the ground, so I'm relatively sure it's in the pan 😂

Needless to say - not stressin...

I don't check the dip stick either. As long as there's no puddle of 0w20 on the floor, it's good to go till the next oil change.

I check mine early on to get a "feel for" that engine and it's oil consumption or lack of.
Once I get so many miles, and see that it will go xx miles and not get low, I don't bother with it. But early on - I want to know if there's a consumption issue, how far can it go, that sort of thing. I don't want to be "that guy" who doesn't realize his engine has been burning a quart ever 2,000 miles and suddenly at 6,000 miles the light comes on. It's all about learning all about your vehicle. And after a while, you know its personality, what it does or doesn't do. Sudden oil consumption CAN happen so I can't say "I never check it" -that's foolish.

I check mine between changes.

I think this last time I had used a little more than half a quart between changes?

It runs great. I am pretty sure my JK lost about that much between changes as well.

Will keep monitoring.

By the way, a dipstick oil extractor, or fluid extractor, can be really handy. A quick, no-mess way to lower the level if you think it's too high. Also, my go-to for draining oil from small engines around the farm.

A simple way to drain oil in a controlled manner is to use a shop vac stuffed into the oil fill port.

You are basically creating a oil Bong, when you remove the drain plug the oil will stay in the pan gurgling, you remove the shop vac for a second and oil drains out add it back oil stops draining.

Doing this with a buddy makes it very easy.

For $200 you can do it with a remote. A guy I follow on IG uses this and a lot of other expensive stuff for super clean oil changes in his mobile business.

I personally just wear nitrile gloves when changing oil and keep my arm out the way, and then I just throw the gloves out when I'm done.
