I know I always post parts that are sometimes pricey. This is part of the reason that high quality toppers can get very costly. My custom build has almost hit a grand in parts already. I can only imagine what it would need to sell in a retail market to actually make a profit on it. At least I know what I am building will be a quality build that will hold up.

What's a stock box weigh?
If you mean a Truck Cap - which is what I'm referring -- It all depends on who makes it, what materials and its size ! The one I had for 13 years on my RAM 1500, with 6'4" bed, was A.R.E.'s best at the time ('03) weights ~200 lbs. ! The major manufacturers all list the Specs. for the one you may want . I'm hopeful they - A.R.E. / LEER / SnugTop - or someone comes out with a Gladiator Line by the end of the year . . . same for BedRug . This was the set up I had for the 1500 and it worked perfectly for MY Application ! Hoping it will, with some modification, again !

To me something like this would be a better option than replacing the bed.
Rack.jpg
To ME, these "Contraptions" are just the thing that gets us all "micro managing" our intended USE or should it not be USES (plural) ? I MUCH prefer the Simplicity of just Covering the Bed with a Hard Tonneau or preferably a CAP and a nice useful BedRug - they now have 2 versions, but non yet for the Gladiator . I'm hoping they will, otherwise I'd have to buy a BedRug for a much larger vehicle and custom cut it (myself) - yup I think their THAT good ! For MY Application . . . we all have to take into account OUR intended uses and the cost effectiveness & means ($$$) . This VERSATILITY (for ME) is ideal . I have No need to be removing and replacing the CAP for hauling odd shaped items - MY Gladiator Will BE (as intended) a Fully Functioning LIFESTYLE /Fly Fisherman, Campers "tour de Force" !
a Sport S "Gatorator", Max Tow, 8spd. auto, AT tired, Locking Rear Diff'd, 7" uConnected, Heated seats/wheel'd, Tan Clothed (yes tan; should go nicely, with the Gator) . . . and the #'s currently come out to be $ 46,405 + the cost of "doing business" in WA. State ! Minus the Trade-In on my "immaculate" 2016 Trail rated WK2 ! I figure this truck will wind up costing me ~ $25K, maybe $27K ? Plus the few "gotta-have" add ons ! After all it is a JEEP !? The aforementioned Cap & BedRug . . . then gotta have the LED's up front and probably one of the 2 "Rubicon rails" ! Oh and of course a SLIGHTLY LARGER diameter Falken Wildpeak AT tires - to replace the mediocre set it comes with (245's) - looking at a 255 which is slightly larger in diameter . I may even decide to change wheels to an 18" (AEV's?) ! I've noticed that the Overland rims are 18's vs. the Sport S's 17" rims fills out the fenders with a better look !
Ok, now it really is pst my bedtime . . . ;)

Good info, but I actually meant weight of the stock from the factory steel box bolted to the frame.

That build will look nice!

I'm not sure it'd be worth it going from 245 to 255 though. Depends how slightly you want your diameter to increase. Going 245/75R17 (~31.5") to 255/75R17 (~32") will only give you an extra ~ 1/2". A set of Rubi takeoffs would probably be cheaper than new 255s and give you just a little more size ... 285/70R17 is just under 33" diameter. Whichever way you choose to go, your build will look great!

Actually earlier today I noticed the A.E.V. wheels I'm interested in, the BORAH (onxy) come as a 17" wheel BUT the width is larger - 8.5, so a Falken (there are 2 models that have identical performance #'s, and the only difference is a slight change in the tread pattern ! Go Figure ! Any who, depending on which model tire, with either a 255 (like standard on the 18" Overland JT) or up it a notch to 265 on the 17" Rims -- the Diameters do get larger . . . somewheres around 32.4 to ~ 32.9 ! That's just what I'm looking for - not interested in "33's" (Rubicon is actually slightly less than actual 33" anyway ! Of course the amount of Air Pressure will always change that ! The width is for having more rubber on the ground; the diameter more for esthetically pleasing to see ! For Me ! Of course I could go for the Overland 18's . . . they look good too, imo ! Hope that helps clarify my point of view .

Exploration Outfitters is the Dealer in the United States for Patriot Campers. I talked to hem and was quoted $9900 for the Tray and $15990 for the 3/4 Canopy. Good luck.

Alright im curious what you overlanders like with regards to the back. Do you like a hard enclosed shell like RLD designs, a soft one like can-back, or an open leitner style one? Is the complete enclosure necessary to you?

If someone can build a rig like the Wayout concept I would pay for it. But, I would prefer a closed concept over the bed and use that space more creatively and wisely...

Nvm didnt know PCOR did work in US - I thought they were an Aussie only company...

I think the only real option is the kitchen for the PCOR. I asked a little but you may want to contact the us distributor [email protected] for more info. Might want to figure out installation as well. You are going to need some type of forklift or tractor to be able lift the canopy or some work around. The wiring harness is no nonsense to run from the cab to the Canopy. There are others but from what I have seen, they are not as refined as the PC version and yes you pay for it. I looked at different options here but this is the bets fit for me. Worse case scenario is getting the Tray and Canopy and going with a James Baroud rooftop tent and a rhino Batwing.

On a side note. I have seen Patriot Campers offer financing on these and trailers and am sure that we can do the same in the US up to 84 months with a very decent rate mot likely below 5% with current trends on lending. That said for myself I should be able to accommodate both the Tray/Canopy and the X1H total for less than my current boat payment. That said I would have to of course sell the boat.
