Having spent a lot of time hauling open cargo trailers, I was curious what the greater drag of a travel trailer would do to handling. Also greater weight, requiring a WDH (a Husky in this case).

We passed on taking home our new (to us) trailer last Friday due to pouring rain, lightning and hail. The 70 mile drive home was a little sad but the visibility from the first hard rain made the freeway VERY complicated.

Picked up the trailer Sunday, the WDH hitch was already setup and we tuned the Curt Echo Bluetooth controller with the new Manual Override button - it's a very handy little system. I like it a LOT. Our sales rep said they sold two the day before, but was very interested in the button.

Nice little drive home, stayed 55-62 the whole way depending on what the truckers were doing, though I passed trucks twice at 72 MPH - no problems with power or handling. 11-13 MPG indicated. Saw 6th regularly, 7th only going down a train overpass. Crummy road condition (not weather related, CAVU the whole day) bumps and ruts didn't cause any upset.

4400 lbs dry, 26.5' with tongue included, 2007 Pathfinder 24RKS, max gross is 7000 but where in HELL would you put 2600 lbs of stuff? Already demo'd out all the valances whuff my wife is having a blast with the remodel.

You'd be surprised how much stuff weighs in the camper when you start adding stuff. IF you have propane that's weight as is water in the lines. Most don't even think about that but my motorhome takes about 12 gallons of antifreeze when i winterize....Sure smaller campers take less but even with empty tanks there is weight if your lines have water in them.

When we upgraded motorhomes a few years ago i weighed everything we took out and was amazed at what we had in there. It was over 1500#'s, but was mostly "throw this in a compartment" and this and this and over 3 years you add alot of junk. Charchol, BBQ grills, BBQ gas tanks (little 1#...6 add up), lighter fluid, smores forks at least 20 USB phone cords (i swear they multiply) and this isn't even taking into account all the cloths and shoes and boots and DVD's...the list goes on.

When we go our new motorhome I tried to be good about adding stuff but last weekend i noticed the same thing. Compartments packed full of junk. Gonna get a spring cleaning soon and empty again....

Oh good project for wife...tell her she has to weigh all her cloths, shoes and makeup before she can put it in the camper...write us from the hospital bed please : )

I already shot down a marble tulip table that weighed 100 lbs, I can feel the ice thinning under me now!

Edit to add: This is a trailer that sleeps two, and only two, middle aged travellers.
