Nice of everyone to give input. Just to be clear... I don’t have any intention of trading in my JTR. Just kinda wondered what they were worth as of now. Figured the JTs would have less depreciation (even just a little) than the JLs since they are even more utilitarian.

Was looking around the forum and was kinda wondering the value of our Jeeps. How many of you have traded in your Gladiator already? What sort of trade value did you get? What did you trade in for?
Sticker on mine was $47k in May 2019. With 14,000 on the odometer, dealer gave me just under $40k for it last month. Mine was a lease, and I turned it in early to lease the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. They admittedly told me that "Gladiator sales are soft" and that's why I couldn't get more. I have no reason to not believe them; I've seen JTs sitting on local dealership lots for over six months.

That is a good trade value WXman. Figure your could buy a Sport S now for about 15% below MSRP becasue of the $2K rebate, so currently you should be able to buy a Sport S with your sticker for around $40,300. I know you added extras, but based on the miles, I think you did pretty well on the trade.

Guess I will add my two cents worth. Gladiator sales have dropped after the feeding frenzy when they first came out. The local dealerships have plenty of them in stock. Some of them will discount all but the Rubicons and a few are selling with big discounts to move them. One dealership told me that in the beginning they sold them for up to $10k over invoice and would not let anyone test drive unless they were going to buy one. Today most of the tire kickers end up buying a Ram 1500 over the Gladiator which is a better value.

The person that said that they were offered $38K as a trade and felt it was a good deal, consider this, the dealer is making it up somewhere, they are in business to make money not loose money. The deals always look great but just like at a casino, the odds are always in favor of the house. That dealer would have to resell that for at least 15%, probably 20%, under the cost of a new one.

If you check out CarSaver.com, you can build and price a new JT, get at $52K Rubicon for around $47K with a life time power train warranty included at no charge (well you are paying for it in the price so there is a charge). I built one last week and got the quote from a local dealer immediately. I've read there is a dealer in CA selling Gladiators for 12% under invoice now.

Yeah they got to make money, I know that. My point was I wouldn't be losing money really on the deal. They offered me trade in or cash for the $38,000. I'm sure they would mark it up to $44,000 or something with the 35's and lift on it. They got a sport on the lot now that is just lifted with 35's and they want $48,000 for it. I only got $2000 invested in it basically and out the door at just under $37,000, if I paid it off got the money back on the warranty that I bought, I would basically be drove the gladiator for a month and made $500. They aren't losing money in some markets like you think.

So here's a real life scenario. I bought my JTR in December off of the Jeep dealer lot. It was CPO'd with $8,000 Miles. My JTR has pretty much every option and held a sticker in March of $62,500. I paid $50,800 with the full extended CPO warranty, which actually made it slightly better than buying a new Jeep in my opinion. I figure if I had been negotiating on a new one, I probably could have seen a $4k discount in our area. Give or take, I traded $8k for 6 months and 8,000 miles, but got an extended warranty. Different ways of calculating the depreciation... The best deal in the world, no. A fair deal to get everything on my list and save a few bucks? I'm happy with it...

Not sure where you guys are that Gladiator sales are weak. Here in the NJ / tri-state are I've been trying to buy a gladiator for the past 6 to 8 weeks and the Sport models under $40K just don't stay in inventory for more then a few days. Most dealers will only do the true car 2% below invoice deal. It took me weeks, and a handful of dealers, to find one that would go the full 7% below invoice and I had to drive about 2 hours from my home to find that dealer in another state. Whenever I would offer 7% below in NJ I would get laughed and then watch the vehicle sell the next day to someone at the dealer's full asking price. I ended up getting my Sport w/ Automatic for $32K, on a lease with a 76% RV, and I thing it's an amazing value at this price.

It's HARD to sell pickup trucks at $40K+ and I can understand the more expensive vehicles sitting around. I don't think the target audience of a gladiator is really in the $50K price range. They are just too expensive (hence people buy Rams)

As an FYI the RV on a 24 month lease right now is 82% !!

Sounds like y'all east coast boys need to start jumping a plane westbound. Dealers here have been sitting on all trim levels of Gladiators for several months... as in, seven months (or more). They're advertising up to $12,000+ off sticker, which equates to around 10% below invoice per the data sheets I've seen at my dealership. They can't seem to give away a Jeep Gladiator in my area.

The dealer link you included is only showing 6 Gladiators total in inventory. That's seriously not alot at all, but then again this dealer only has 24 new Jeeps total on the lot. In comparison, the dealer in Allentown,PA I used has 143 new Jeeps on the lot, which is typical for east coast.

Even still, this dealer only shows one Sport model under $39K MSRP -- which is still in transit and listed at MSRP. So not sitting around. The next cheapest Sport S is at $46K MSRP and does show a $10K discount, but in my experience, probably includes every rebate under the sun. Even if I could get a Sport S for $38K, as listed, I still paid $6K less for my Sport. This is difference between a $300/mo lease payment and a $400/mo lease payment

I just really think Jeep screwed up the pricing. A base model Sport should be under $30K. The Sport S should be in low to mid 30's and then the overland and rubicon into the 40's..

Keep in mind that most of these "Great Deals" are not great deals if you have a trade in. A local dealership here in MN is offering an additional $1K on your trade in value if it is a 2015 or newer with less than 100k on the odometer. I was going to trade in my 2017 JK Sport S with 18K miles on a Gladiator Sport S with max tow and even navigation. It had a MSRP of $46,810 and the dealer discounted price was $39,384. Blue Book, and NADA value of my JK trade in was right at $24k, their offer was $17k. I said you cant be serious, and their response was, well we are giving you such a good deal on the Gladiator that we cant afford to give you a great deal on your trade. I walked away from this dealership like any smart person would have, and I still have been getting text messages from the salesperson over a month later to see if we can make a deal. Yup, they have an entire lot full of Gladiators that will probably be sitting there until the tires rot off with sales tactics like that

I'd consider buying one off a lot in this current market, but haven't found anything like what I'd want. Gator Rubi or Hydro Sport S, tan seats, max tow, 8.4, hard top, no safety. Looking for other options as well, but these are the priorities.

Give your offer to the dealer if they keep contacting you. If they take it great.

I traded my 2016 low mileage JKU WW and the trade was $27,500 with 10% off the JTR MSRP, which was a good discount when I bought in Nov.

Trade in offers are all over the board and there has not been a vehicle I traded that the dealer did not first come out of the gate with a low ball trade value. That is when the fun starts.

Buying a vehicle used that is in its 1st model year pretty much is based on supply and demand. When the JT first came out and getting one was hard when dealers were jacking up prices would have been a good time to sell and loose little to none or maybe even come out ahead.

With JT sales slow now that the "first on the block to own one" has wore off and dealers are selling for as much as 12% under invoice (I found one dealer that had 100 JTs in stock based on his online inventory for sale) that for most people it would not make much sense to buy a used one in the same model year when a new one would be priced about the same, perhaps lower (considering most people are upside down from the get go).

As for dealer added fees, when I bought my Rubicon, the dealer added his $400 Doc fee and $1600 for extra tinted windows, paint sealant, fabric protector and under coating. I negotiated my best deal (over a period of 2 hours) based on invoice and then told them that I would not pay their Doc fee or the $1600 in dealer adds. After I said good bye and walked out the door, the general manager came after me and said they never waive those costs but they would in my case to make the sale. So while most people just blindly pay those ridiculous fees because they are told they have to an every one does, I did not pay any of it. In all honesty, the dealer pays about $200 for that $1600 in adds and the Doc fee is to print up the docs, get any notary signatures and forward to the state. That is all (and used to be) a part of doing business, but now that $10 worth of time and postage has become $300, $400, $500 to print the Docs and send them to the state.
