Folks,

Out of the corner of my eyes, I’ve been noticing flickers/glitches in my touch screen that last just a tiny split second and by the time I an focus on the screen it’s normal. I’ve noticed it many times now but not consistently enough to say “it happens only going over bumps, or during X or Y events. Doors on and off. Start/stop off and on. Etc.
I thought maybe I was just seeing reflections in the screen but today I was stopped at a red light, reached to change the Carplay app, and it happened while I was staring right at it fully stopped. The sound doesn’t change at all so I’m inclined to rule out the phone cable plus it happens even when the phone is not connected via wire.

Has anyone seen this too?
I have a sport S, 7” uConnect, Popular options group plus cold weather, active blind spot monitoring.

Use your phone to take a video for the dealer, while it is disconnected. You should be able to get the head unit replaced. Even better if it happens for the dealer. Does it happen often enough to be a safety issue (driver distraction)? Have the dealer check for a software update. You may have to wait for it to get worse to be repaired.

Mine does the same thing, but only when Apple CarPlay is active. Does it intermittently no matter the conditions. I’ve had mine 6 months and haven’t even hit 3000 miles, so I’ll bring it up with the dealer at my first oil change. Probably needs an update or something. Not enough to call “distracting” for a recall issue. It’s just annoying haha

Yeah, mine isn’t enough for me to be “distracted” per say either, I’m mostly concerned it may be short that could send current somewhere where it could cause a secondary problem.
I first noticed it happening when the phone was only connected via bluetooth. My daily ride is only ~10-16 minutes depending on traffic. It seems to happen maybe 1 out of 3 times, but when it does it’ll be two or three flickers on the trip at random intervals.

I absolutely LOVE driving this truck and want it to last for the next 20 years.

Mine does the exact same thing only when CarPlay is active. No clue why. Haven’t cared enough to take it in for it.

I’m wondering if it’s only effecting certain sizes of the UConnect or models...
Mine rolled off the assembly line in December ‘19 for what it’s worth.

Yep mine had done this since the first day of ownership last July. I also have the 7” unit and it happens with CarPlay. I’ve tried all the USB ports, different cables and other phones and the head unit glitches with all of ‘em using CarPlay. Taken it to the dealer and have shown them the video and they still won’t fix it. There’s another thread with the video if you look around a bit. Frustrating.

Thanks for replying! Now I’m wonderIng if it happens with android, or if it’s an apple glitch.

Haven’t tried Android unfortunately. Mine definitely happens more while I’m using maps (Apple, google or Waze) They all do it.

I might have found the problem. As embarrassing as it may be: pocket Lint in the cable port.

I charge my phone on a wireless charging dock and as a result have had my phone wire-connected more in the past month after purchasing my gladiator than in the two years I've had my iphone. Today I scraped around the charging port with a wood toothpick and removed a lot of lint. I haven't had a chance to test it yet (at work), but I'd be surprised it that doesn't help it. Otherwise I'm getting a new cable. Regardless I'll report back with an update.

I have the same issue on my 7.0 radio using Android Auto. From what I have noticed and speculate, it is a tolerance stacking issue of the radio to USB cable connection at the phone jack. When the cable is brand new, it seems less of an occurrence and as time goes by and usage goes up, the flickering becomes more frequent. I have used the factory OEM Samsung USB cables and also high quality aftermarket USB cables with the same results, works great new and over time fades out.

Take same suspect cables and use them in my wife's Colorado with their OEM Mylink Android Auto and there is no issue.

I have this issue too....Since day one but it was super super rare when I first got it. Fast forward to now and I notice it every day, well, the days I actually use my carplay. It doesnt have any issues when I use bluetooth or anything else. Just appleplay and android auto. I'm going to have my dealer take a look and show them the various videos I've recorded of it happening and hopefully they can fix it or replace the head unit.

I have the same thing happen... & I can without a doubt say IT IS NOT A CABLE ISSUE... I know this because I dont use a cable for CarPlay. I have a cplay2air adapter so I am not physically connecting my phone to the truck at all which means its definitely not a cable issue. I actually figured it was an issue with the adapter, but it wasnt a big enough issue for me to physically plug my phone in. The fact that all of you using a cable are seeing it too makes me feel better about this overpriced adapter I use.
