Thanks for taking the time to share. I appreciate your perspective. TBH – the most difficult thing for me is giving up the Gator color.

Do you think there should/would be concerns about the drivetrain on the JTR and the 392 swap? I guess the logic is that the 392 was designed to have the 392, but I don't think there were major (if any) changes to the drivetrain of the JL 392. FWIW, I believe the JL 392 weighs more than a JTR (obvs. because of the engine).

I'm not a hardcore rock crawler, which is probably obvious from my build, but I do have fun with the truck.
I think there are enough nannies in place especially on the wrangle that the Dana 44 is more than enough for that power. You could still easily break something if you being stupid with it. I hear a lot of recommendation to go 1 ton but to me very few actually need that. Its a lot of weigh and money and if your not rock crawling to the extreme you may not like how much it changes up the driving dynamic. For reference I've seen a stock Dana 44 hold up to a Viper 8 liter V10 through some stupid abuse and it was just fine. I jump my Mojave and I have no concerns that the axles will be an issue now or with the V8.

I wouldn't be concerned with the axles unless you plan on 38s plus with some technical crawling

One thing to consider is the body is different on the 392, the transmission hump is larger that’s why they have a shallow console and a shallow storage space in the back to make room for for the larger drive train and trunk. They also have insulation
everywhere. It was all well planned out by Mopar engineers. A swap will never be as good as the real thing. Just my 2 cents.
AMW covers this. Jeep already made room for this stock as well. The transmission in question is the exact same as whats behind a 3.0 deisel rubicon. I've talked to an AMW rep, they have done their homework and everything is equal too if not better than OEM. It fits, its serviceable, and functions exactly as a stock gladiator would minus ESS.

Agreed. I recognized that in the initial post; however, I cannot find any poor experiences with the AMW, RubiTrux, etc. stuff when installed by a competent shop. I am concerned about heat, drivetrain stuff, etc. I'm not sure how heat is addressed in the AMW kit given the build-out on their site.

Anyway, I've honestly been losing sleep over this (which is incredibly stupid and unnecessary), but I was considering my OBX trip coming up and my two GSDs...it will be a pain in the ass with a Wrangler. I had a JK in the past but without the big ass dogs. I do have a seat delete on the way as well, so there's that.

I think a decision has been made. I'll share the progress and long-term stuff for better or worse.
There isn't a fitment issue or a heat issue. AMW uses 90% OEM parts and the transmission is exactly the same as what on a eco deisel gladiator. And eco guys on here aren't complaining about it. It will be properly insulated.

If you are going with a swap, is the 392 the correct choice?
yes, its the best cost to performance option with no headaches. Its literally plug n play all OEM.

Would a LS swap be any cheaper? The 392 are kind of niche and carry a high price compared to getting a 6.0 out of a crashed chevy truck

Buy the Wrangler 392 and worship it as the Jeep gods demand of you. Buy or rent a trailer for the limited truck things you need.
FWIW – The '24 392 is @ $86K...

And the new Wrangler is bumper to bumper.
IDEAL would be a CPO Wrangler - 7/100 powertrain warranty.
As a person who has dealt with trying to get that bumper to bumper honored. I wouldn't let it factor. I hate warranty personally anyway. Too many time the headaches and time lost wasn't worth the dealer dicking around and breaking other stuff. Find a shop you trust and pay out of pocket for the big stuff and DIY the rest. but thats just me

TBF - these are both valid points.

Honestly, after torturing myself/wasting time at dealerships for the past two weeks, I remembered why I cannot stand stepping foot in one.

It's different down here in Virginia ;)
I personally know the owners and all of the employees.
They typically treat me right, and most of my questions are answered via text.
