Thank you for the link to the online owners manual.
But it should say something to the effect:

Warning: The vehicle does not stop accelerating
by releasing the set+ button.
The vehicle will continue to accelerate
until the "itsy bitsy, teeny weenie" new set speed
displayed under the clock in the instrument cluster
is attained.

Just the opinion of one curmudgeon.
Funny you should say that.
To me that set speed was one of the first things I saw or noticed. I caught that right away.
I thought that was so cool seeing the goal speed, what you set it to, was displayed so regardless of actual speed, that was the goal. Clever!
And yet - I know of 2 who had no idea that was even there.
Yeah, we're all in our own world, perhaps thinking what's obvious to us should be to all.
Guilty as charged.

Isn't this basic-
ally saying "the vehicle
will accelerate

when you tell it to
accelerate"? It is cruise,
not the gas pedal.

If you set a speed
you want the vehicle to
reach, I'd expect it to

accelerate un-
til it reached that speed. That's the
point of cruise control.

"Setpoints" is the key word.
After more than 50 years
of using cruise control
without setpoints,
there is a learning curve.

The last new vehicle I bought
was a 2009 Toyota Tacoma.
No setpoints.
Clearly, I need to get out more.

Not one to shy away
from beating a dead horse
to make it drink,
there's more.

Whatever happened to the admonition
"keep your eyes on the road".

In the three seconds it takes
to set+ from 55 to 70
and watch the itty bitty set point display
a vehicle will travel nearly 300 feet,
the length of a football field.

There are already
too many distractions while driving.
The big screen infotainment center,
GPS mapping, smart phone texting,
and digital instrument displays
while holding a cold one.

Back when I first learned how to drive
my grandfather's '56 VW bug,
the analog speedometer,
which one could read in their peripheral vision,
contained an odometer
that only went to 99,999.9 miles,
a blue high beam indicator light
and a flashing green turn signal indicator light.
That was all.

There was no temp gauge.
The engine was air cooled.

There was no fuel gauge.
Instead it had a tank transfer lever
like a motorcycle under the dashboard
to switch to the reserve tank.
A driver only forgot one time
to switch back to the main tank
after filling up.

Somehow, I miss that.

I wasn't aware of the hold-for-10mph-increments "feature", but I'm fine with it. I've been using the buttons to speed up/slow down via 1 MPH short clicks while watching the target speed to verify. If the speed limit increases/decreases by 5 MPH, for example... click-click-click-click-click. if it's by 10 MPH, click it 10 times. Now I know I can just hold it down longer for those larger changes (and maybe fine tune with short clicks after)... cool. I learned something today! LOL! Usually, if I need to drastically adjust the set speed, I'll hit the cancel button to disengage the cruise control and manually accelerate (or simply brake to disengage cruise and decelerate) to the desired speed, and then hit "Set" to hold it there. This is not a problem... just something to get used to.

Finally tried holding the SET+ button on my 2020 JTR today. It did not operate as described in this thread. If I hold the SET+ button, my cruise set speed simply increases 1 mph/sec until I release it. There must have been a software change between the year groups.

Edit: Mine could be operating differently due to the manual transmission.

Is the behavior different between the ACC and the Standard Cruise Control?

My 2020 automatic operates this way too.

I have an early 2019 build with ACC and Automatic. I tried it last night and holding down the set+ button gives the 5mph increase.
