You are paying the same sales tax regardless of whether you pay it yourself/higher down or it's rolled into the loan. . . You may be overthinking the taxes. Assuming tax is $4k, and the loan rate is a (high) 7%, if you plan to drop a large 1st payment, worse case you are looking at ~$23 interest on the sales tax for a month.

Peterson collects sales tax on the purchase price. CA sales tax rates vary by city/county (7.75% in San Diego County).
You are correct - it's the interest on the taxes/registration that I am trying to avoid. I'm looking at about $5,500 to $5,800 in tax/registration fees (8.975 tax rate for my city).

I'm half Dutch, I can't help it. This was a bigger deal when I thought there might be a minimum percentage of the loan required to carry for the 6 months. The larger the loan, the larger that percentage. Now that I know that isn't the case....might be worth the $30~ to roll it into the loan. Might. ;)

But seriously, this discount is good. I am glad you posted about them and shared your experience! And I am taking your advice and flying up and driving back.

I’ve sent Kent a metric ton of referrals and I’ve yet to buy one yet, but soon the diesel will open and they will change

I just dealt with Kent last weekend. He kicked ass! I was in and out in an hour. Definitely use him though and mention this forum, the entire experience changed when I dropped Kent's name. I should have done it as soon as I contacted them.

Wow, love the blue Mojave! Kent is indeed a badass. He even called me up months later to see how things were going with my Sport S.

Wish I could have gotten a Rubicon or Mojave, just wasn't in the budget this time around :) Maybe in 5 years I can reach out to Kent again and talk about a trade-in ;)

Just contacted FCA to get the VIN - ordered June 19, it's apparently in shipping status.

How did they do on trade-in value? How long of a drive was it for you? Also how'd they do on your Mojave pricing?

Trade in pricing was ok. I got that ram in 05 and it had 208,000 miles on it though, so it's probably not a good representation of the trade in process. MSRP was 59k, got it to 49k before tax title and license. 52 all in based on Texas sales tax.

I placed my order with Kent yesterday, and I have to say that his communication was perfect. Now, I also kept it simple and easy, since I know his low prices are due to high volume and minimal hand holding. I used the latest monthly dealer Order Guide that's stickied to this Forum to figure out exactly what I wanted. Sent him an e-mail with details and he got back the next day with an order sheet with price, ready for me to sign and send back. The next day around lunchtime he called me to get my credit card information for the deposit. Really friendly guy. His price was 6.08% below invoice. Not the 7% I was hoping for, but I refuse to work with my incompetent local dealers, and even with a 1-way flight and 9 hours of gas it will still be cheaper than using any of those idiots.

I now have a couple weeks to talk to Derik there and finalize any parts I want his team to change out once the truck arrives at the dealership. Hoping for 35" tires, but it will depend on what credit he'll give me for the stock Rubicon ones.

For example, my initial e-mail looked like this:
Sorry for digging up this old post, but did you end up getting your tires changed in Nampa before picking up your truck? Did they buy back the OEM 33s?

I’ve been crazy busy with work, but my Jeep was delivered today. I really wanted to go to Idaho and pick it up, but things changed at work and I can’t get the time off. I used the delivery service I wrote about and linked in this thread. $1,100 from Idaho to Central CA in an enclosed trailer. I didn’t get Gator, my first choice, as it was discontinued THE SAME DAY I placed my order. But I did get Gobi which was discontinued shortly after (and my wife’s favorite). Glad to finally have it!!

Looks great! Is that the first 2021 JTR or the last 2020 off the line?

Probably one of the last 2020’s. Gobi isn’t available in the 2021 model year. The day I order, I ordered Gator...the same day it was discontinued. So I ordered this a few days later. I think 2020 orders stopped a couple days after that.

I've been lurking in this forum thread since it started. Finally ready to pull the trigger on ordering my JT. I'm down in San Diego and like so many others I'll hopefully be heading up to ID and Kent to do business. Just sent him my build sheet and waiting for the quote!
