if i may interject. the best advice i've ever received in my life came 45 years ago when i was a young pup. i was put in a position of all equipment and vehicle maintenance at my job. i had basic and i mean basic mechanical skills. one day our 10,000 psi water blaster developed a pump problem. i wanted the boss to walk through the disassembly/repair/reassembly with me. he was too busy to help so he said "take it apart, study it, repair or replace whatever is needed and put it back together". what if i screw something up i asked. "you won't make that mistake twice" he said. i was flabbergasted! that tidbit of advice has served me well throughout my life.Hello everyone!
I hope all are well and safe! I took Trixee to a recommended dealership today. This dealership was recommended by my mentor in one of the 4 wheel clubs I attend and ride with. (One has accepted my membership, I still need to fulfill a few requirements for the other one.) Anyway,, today's diagnostic cost $250... and to say that I now feel like the dumbest old broad on the planet is an understatement. >_< I was thinking it was something major because of the 4 wheeling and damage to the steps and body I sustained.

it was a lose bolt that had backed out of the factory skid plate causing the skid plate to bounce and hit the frame, cross beam-y-thing-a-ma-jig it was bolted to.
When the mechanic explained what it was I asked him to show me exactly what it was, so at least now I know to check that first next time.. if there is a next time.. They did tell me that I need a new steering dampener because mine is damaged. Ends up the tie rod is fine, I got my parts names mixed up when I was looking underneath. I have so much to learn, I don't want to be dumb. I hate feeling so stupid. And today I feel incredibly stupid.
At least I learned something today.
the camera on a smartphone is an indispensable tool. and the interweb is too if you can separate the wheat from the chaff. this forum has provided me with mountains of info. so jump in, have fun, break stuff and learn by experience! and please, do not feel dumb.
