Not sure if this should be in General or somewhere else but I've had the worst time with my new upgrades on my new JT I bought 8/11. I pretty much knew before I signed and paid for the JT what bumper I wanted. I waffled for a while on a tonneau cover or bed rack, ultimately choosing the bed rack.

I got a Fishbone bed rack from a vendor not far from me so it was delivered 8/20. The two front supports and back two supports are driver/passenger specific while the two middle are either or. I got all driver side supports. I called Friday and the answer was to send me a whole new rack in that huge box and then I take out the parts I need and replace my un-needed parts in that box and they'll come pick it up. I guess not a bad solution in a way but the new one won't get here until Thursday night and they're scheduled to pick up the excess on Saturday. My thinking - send me two passenger side supports in a much smaller box with a prepaid label to send my two wrong supports back in that same box. Much cheaper shipping on them to boot.

Now the bumper I'm not saying the brand because I don't want this company to get a bad light when this is 100% on UPS's shoulders. I bought the JT 8/11 and ordered my bumper here in the States on 8/13. It was supposed to be here 8/19. On 8/17 I get a text from UPS that it will be delayed 1 business day. Then on 8/18 I get another saying it will be delayed another business day. All the while all tracking shows is "We have your package" on 8/14.

Friday 8/21 I get a text from UPS saying I needed to contact them immediately because Customs had some questions for me or I wouldn't be getting my package. At first I thought it was either a mistake or a spam email but the tracking # did match so I called. For some reason my bumper a few states away crossed the border. I assume either Mexico or Canada but they won't tell me which. They were asking me questions like, "why would you ship a package across the border and have it come back?" I couldn't make them understand I didn't ship it, I bought it and the vendor shipped it and UPS decided what route it would take to me.

So I get the vendor involved and they're as perplexed as me. So we talk to UPS and UPS tells us if I do get my package it could be Mon, Tue or Wed of this week if they let it go. What? Is this resolved or not? We tell them it's a bumper for a Jeep. Vendor tells me if I don't get the bumper today they'll ship another one NOT thru UPS.

I buy stuff all the time, I've never had anything like this happen before. I could've driven there over the weekend and brought it home in this amount of time.

Mail can be crazy.

I've had USPS packages come to within one town over from me, then sent several states away, then come back.

I think I have even had UPS packages do that, though its less common.

Some of the 'reasoning' I have read online is that sometimes sorting centers will get overwhelmed and they'll just fill a truck full of packages going some random places simply to get them out the way, hoping their problems are better by the time they all come back 😂

I've had UPS do some squirrelly stuff to me. I've ordered something from a vendor in my state (Texas) and while monitoring the tracking, it left Texas, went to Tennessee, then to Georgia, then BACK to Texas, then to me.

Why, I have no clue.

USPS is worse, I ordered something from Florida, made it to my local post office in 2 days. Then sat in my local post office for 5 days before delivery. I swore they lost it, but I got it.

Could be a erroneous load to the wrong truck. Happens all the time to all carriers. It wasn't meant to go there, but it did, and now they have to sort it out.

I wouldn't say any of this is malicious.

The UPS guy that deals with Customs was very accusatory to me and the vendor Friday. He specifically asked us "what were we trying to pull."

The vendor kept telling him that he shipped a bumper directly to me in TN it was THEIR decision to cross the border with the package. The UPS guy's response was, "Now that it has crossed the border, we need to figure out why you did it." Me and the vendor bother were like, is this a joke? How can WE tell YOU why YOU did something. It was an extremely bizarre conversation.

I just checked UPS's site and they finally put out the detailed tracking. All it has said up to this point is "Delayed at Customs."

I ordered 8/13

8/17 Label Created in Irvine, CA
8/17 Delivery will be delayed one business day
8/18 12:32AM we have your package at Riverside, CA
8/18 1:38AM departed Riverside, CA
8/18 6:00AM Delivery will be delayed one business day
8/18 9:34PM Departed Riverside, CA
8/22 6:02AM Arrived Memphis, TN
8/23 11:38PM Departed Memphis, TN

So while we were talking to the UPS guy it was basically entering Memphis about 3 hrs from my house outside Nashville, TN. I'm not seeing where it crossed any border. Unless they made a HUGE loop north or south to get to TN. Riverside is close to I40 and I live 3.4 miles off I40 in TN. LOL!

The UPS guy made it sound like my package was being held hostage in a foreign country. The salt to the wound is I found the bumper at another vendor closer to me that said they could have it to me in 2 business days.

That UPS dude is obviously a big fan of the TV show, To Catch a Smuggler. He's hoping that that bumper is filled with a couple kilos of meth or something, disregarding the fact that THEY sent it over the border, not the vendor.

But if/when you get it, open the package right then and there in front of the UPS driver and be ready to file a claim for any damage. You know they've opened it to search it. Maybe a few times. I'd put money on it that it'll have some scuff marks on it.

Get the dudes name if you can. AFTER you get it, file a complaint. Slandering and making accusatory statements on a customer is not in their employee handbook, I guarantee that.

Yep. Your bumper became a mule for Tapatio. It sucks but Tapatio is sometimes required.

All joking aside I hope you get your bumper and I’d definitely submit a complaint to UPS HQ. The conversation was recorded so as long as you have time/date it happened they can pull it up. Sooner is better than later as they do record over conversations.

Local FedEx hub to me got so bad a year or two ago, packages were taking 1-2 weeks to deliver in the immediate area after getting to the hub. They started getting it sorted out after people started driving to the hub and harassing everyone at the security gate 🤣

I've had horror stories from FedEx, UPS and USPS. I've noticed if a package winds up in Jacksonville, FL, Memphis, TN or St Louis, MO you can bet it will be delayed if you even get it.

It doesn't matter what day I order something from FedEx my delivery day is a Friday, every time. EVERY single time at about 4PM Friday I get a notice that delivery is postponed because the business is closed and they can't get a signature. My home is NOT a business, no signature was required and I have security cameras everywhere and no Fed Ex truck even came down the street.

On the flip side if I sell something online and ship OUT via USPS it'll get to the buyer within 2-3 days and never an issue.

I shipped a 1964 VOX AC30 vintage amp from TN to a guy in NY a few years ago and over insured it. A few weeks go by and the buyer is getting antsy. I have FedEx looking everywhere and a month later it comes back to me in 3 separate boxes and they're wet. One of the drivers forgot to close the door and it fell out on the highway.

I fell all over myself apologizing to the buyer. I told him I insured it for twice what he bought it for. I told him I'd refund his money immediately and when I got my insurance check I'd split the extra with him 50/50. He bought it from me for $5850 and I insured it for $12,000. I refunded his full $5850 immediately and about 3 weeks later sent him half the difference. He complained to the mods on the Gear Page and said I found another buyer who would pay more so I screwed him. I had all the pics and the check from FedEx and he was banned but looking back I wish I'd kept my extra money from the insurance.

It’s USPS here that’s the problem. We have community mailbox things and those have been ripped off repeatedly. Cameras have calmed that down. The other problem is just the USPS people themselves. Wrong packages in wrong boxes and every other type of problem. We’ll get a key in the box for larger items and the package is for someone else. I’ve gone the route of just delivering it to the house it belongs to. They’ve returned the favor a time or 3 themselves so it all works out in the end but it would help if they got it right from the get go.

My all-time fav was when I was expecting a delivery from FedEx and it required a signature. Being I'm retired, me being home to sign was a non-issue.

We also have a Ring camera that sends alerts when someone is in the driveway. I was in our bedroom watching TV, heard the Ring chime on my phone, look out the window, FedEx dude. I put on a shirt, put on my slippers and went downstairs. Through our front door window I see no FedEx truck. I open the front door and see the "Sorry we missed you" sticker on the door.

As they say in sports, "Let's go to the video.". I pull up the Ring video, FedEx dude quickly walked up - empty handed - stuck the notice on my door and shagged. Never even rang the bell !!

Yeah, I was livid. It wasn't my regular delivery driver, he's cool. For years I can put Please leave package behind column, I hope this note serves as a signature, I could not get off work. Thank you. And he's left it every time. I thought about calling and complaining, but I didn't want them to confuse this clown with my regular driver.

I don't know what the story was with this clown. The next day my regular driver made the delivery. I told him what happened. His response ? "Yeah, he's a dick. He'll be getting fired soon.".

I have that happen a LOT. If a client insists on sending me paper backup as opposed to sending digitally thru my portal, I always have them send it to my home because the mail at the office is even more wonky. I can't tell you how many times FedEx, UPS and USPS will take the time to walk up and put that sticker on the door but don't knock or try to deliver.

I found out from my brother who works for USPS earlier this year why they do that. I had a client send their docs and I got the sticker. It said they'd try to deliver it the next day. No package the next day. So I call the PO and get the run around. I then call my brother, he said when any carrier puts that sticker on your door and they have no package in hand or really try to deliver it's because they've misplaced it and they're stalling and buying time trying to find it.

Fedex Express and Fedex Ground are 2 different operations. Express is corporate with rules and regulations. GROUND is operators working for contractors, it's the wild wild west that doesn't care about you or the package.
