On my 8 hour trip back yesterday, I used my 6' Anker cable from the center console and did not have any disconnects. Apparently it worked better than my OEM apple cable!

Even stating “OEM” cable doesn’t guarantee performance. I’ve seen many people abuse them and they don’t meet spec anymore. Has it been yanked, kinked or soaked in root beer... New OEM is a good safe benchmark but a comment about quality is still worthwhile. Things can only be dumbed down so far.

Turning the truck off and then restarting after a few minutes should reset the USB hub that feeds the center console. If not, a trip to the dealer may be necessary.

Also try a new cable. After seven months of connecting and removing multiple times a day, my good old Omaker USB cable has started having intermittent connection problems. I ordered a new Anker cable to try.

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear this. Have you checked the status of your cable? We recommend using a manufacturer supplied cord. Please let me know if you plan on visiting a dealership for this concern. I would be happy to open a case for you.

Actually a few hours with the truck off and the outlet came back on. Everything's working fine now. it was definitely not the cable I was using the supplied cable from the manufacturer. And the cable worked in the other ports

For those using android auto, make sure you're using a usb-c 3.1 cable, anything less and you'll likely have issues with the data connection with your phone. I'm not sure what carplay/apple requirements are.

@Mr._Bill, that Anker Powerline II cable you linked us on amazon is only a 2.0 cable, guessing you'll still see connectivity issues with that one.

Actually, it's working great, with no issues so far. I picked that cable because of the design to withstand breakdown from constant use. The previous cable lasted about seven months before the issues started again. The original cables I started with were several years old and had only been used for phone charging.

I am using a Galaxy S8 Active. It's an older phone, so likely not as susceptible to issues with the data link speed of the cable.

I wonder if this is the case. My Pixel 3 wouldn't work with anything other than a USB 3.1 cable, so maybe newer phones need the newest/best data transfer cables. I guess better safe than sorry for others to get the 3.1, might be a gamble otherwise.

I am just now beginning to have this issue in my 2020 Gladiator LE.

The center console USB works great with Carplay for about an hour and then just stops data transfer, but still provides power.

I can move the connection with the same brand new provided Apple cable to the dash connection (USB 1) and it begins working again.

It's as if the USB 2 slot in the center console "times out" after a certain amount of time with the data transfer portion of the connection. Not sure what is causing this, but it is VERY annoying.

I can't tell if it has to do with the Head Unit or the USB ports, but maybe swapping the connections to the head unit can narrow this down. If the connections are swapped such that the head unit thinks that USB 1 is the one in the console, maybe this will fix the issue?

I'm fairly certain it's the extended length cable and any adapters they use to run the USB2 port to the center console: both of these things can cause reduced data transfer rates and cause Carplay/AndroidAuto to disconnect. I have the absolute newest and fastest transfer rate USB cable for my android, and that was the only way to get my USB2 port working for my android auto 99% of the time. Every once in a while I get a screen flicker, but no longer totally disconnects like it did with OEM phone cable.

I would try a new cable from Anker, before messing with the USB cabling in the truck. Get one of the better cables designed to take a lot of abuse.

I’m curious if you ever figured this out? I run into the same thing with Apple CarPlay in the center console.
