I did the same. I wanted to find a way to make them easy to remove. This works fine if you're only concerned with installing the front half. It does snap on and hold well enough. This cutting method allows you to do the whole job in 10 minutes.

I didn't cut them. Took about 1 minute each. If you carefully pry with a small flathead they'll pop apart.

They do...as I recall 48nm. It's in the instructions.

I did pry apart the first one to get a look at both sides and determine my strategy. Once I realized I wasn't going to use the back half and I sunk my screwdriver into my finger, I decided to cut. It took me more like 5 minutes to separate the one. Maybe I would have improved my time. Either option seems like a viable choice depending on your plan.

If anyone’s interested those top caps were I think $2 at my local dealership. p/n 5NT41TX7AA. Saved myself the hassle of removing from the carpet.

These should be included with the kit IMO.

That looks like the bottom piece. I actually bought both, but the Armolite is too thick for them to snap together, so I just pushed the top piece onto the exposed post in the hole, as others have done above.

Somehow I didn't know this product existed. I'm definitely throwing it on my wish list since my Juck has become the primary transport vehicle for the kids and dogs now that my wife is driving a 2-door BMW.

You won't regret it. I just took a shop vac to mine, and took about 7 seconds to suck all the dirt and dog hair up.

My thoughts exactly. For the premium price they charge, these caps/rings should be included in the kit. After all we are talking about a few $2 (probably wouldn’t even cost them that much buying large quantities) pieces of plastic that improve the finished look and save customers the hassle.
