Yes, you would need to open the tailgate, there is some tension that holds it in place and makes it difficult, if not impossible to open without opening the tailgate.

Hope that helps!

CassieAtBestop
@steffen707 Cassie from Bestop confirmed the tailgate needs to be lowered to open the tonneau
You literally beat me by seconds! Thanks for being on the lookout "Jeepers!"! Now I just have to see it in person. i'm not worried about the guy with a knife, but just want to keep honest people honest. And if its "difficult" that's enough for me. I'm a happy PLYWOOD hauler again.

Mystery solved.
It is now.

Well I have read everyone’s posts and I hate to muddy the water but.....

After reading the post by Skyler7381 I had to double check that video. And at 8:09 the tailgate is open and the guy does not reach for any tab to release the cover. Quite to the contrary he just grabs the edge of the cover in the middle with both hands and just flips it up. Perhaps as Cassie says all ya gotta do is to have the tailgate lowered(to release pressure on it I guess).

Yeah but look at this video at 7:57

Hey is that saddle a normal saddle color, or is it light peanut butter brown like the black JT with saddle seats?

Unsolved mysteries lovers of....

Looky here, she said difficult if not impossible. No mystery solved. No mystery solved! Does it lock ass or what?

And... If it did lock it would be illegal since somebody could accidentally lock themselves in before they go driving in a lake! (Reference earlier thread on that point - it happens!

Mystery is not solved! Can't get there from here.

But, here's a quiz for the hell of it

Max tow from factory= Rubi 4.10 GR and Rubi wider Dana 44's.
Mopar Lift with 35" tires seems like that would be plenty for me and I wouldnt be anywhere near a Rubi (with 35") price. (Not that pricing is out)
[/QUOTE]

Max tow doesn’t get the 4:1 crawl ratio in the low diff, which is arguably way more important for crawling than the 4:10s

Hey there,

there is pressure and that holds it in place. Let me try to find more technical descriptions for ya ;)

I haven't seen it in person yet but my coworker was doing a shoot with them last week and was describing it to me. I will reach out to our OEM guys.
