Kinda annoyed…Took my Jeep in due to the known AC issues. Apparently Chrysler voided my warranty because I swapped to 4:88 gears and now I have to pay for them to fix the known AC issue.

Holy cow - what they've said was normal and on purpose there's a TSB for?
LOL - that's almost funny.
Mine never did any of that until our trip to CO - and it's not done it again in the last 2 months. Weird.
They were saying it was to refresh the air or some other stuff - depending on who was asked, etc. and there's a TSB?
I searched the whole web, including all of the communications - ONE AT A TIME, on NHTSA site and nothing about this.

And to the topic - how can changing gears impact anything? Funny thing is that DEALERS do those gear changes! The local dealer here will do it on brand new unsold trucks!

No wonder no one can find it -

  • Sorry, the NHTSA has not posted this TSB document yet.
You can still get the detailed info from Jeep for this TSB. Call your local Jeep dealer's service department & ask for a copy of TSB# 24-007-21.

Since the TSB is related to flashing, did you use a tool to reprogram your system for the different gears? Otherwise there is no correlation here...
Even if he did - there should be no trace left in the system.

I have made changes to my tire size, passive entry, added auto high beam settings and the only thing that happens is because the flash is based on your VIN, it MAY erase changes you made.
So I gotta ask -
Is the setting for the gears somehow different???? Is there some trace left that tells them "hey, look here, this has been MODIFIED!" or something?

And again - DEALERS install these gears! A member recently had it done, others have had it done, others have been to truck shops and had it done (specialty shops that do gears)
So how can a gear change void the whole warranty when dealers do it?

My dealership said the parts would have warranty and they themselves would warrant their work on such things.

JeepCares needs to get involved, IMO

There are some really crappy dealers out there. Wow. I'm not sure the correlation between re-gearing and AC. Luckily, the local dealerships here are great, but from what I've read in the last few weeks, Jeep really needs to clean up their act with the poor dealership experience.

Unless they used, for example, a Tazer Mini and left it plugged in.

Because dealer installation retains warranty. If you do it yourself or 3rd party mechanic...you no longer have that safety net.

FWIW I'm definitely not justifying their actions, because these two things aren't related at all. Just trying to find the smoking gun.

So if someone puts a different bumper on and has trouble with the splash shield on a Rubicon rubbing the tire (yes, there's a TSB on that, it's a warranty thing) the dealer can refuse to fix it is how this looks.

So weird because MY DEALER actually told me they'd sell me a device (Tazer mini by the price they quoted) to change tire sizes and other thing. So apparently dealers sell the devices so you can make the change.

Dealers can do what they want, so I definitely wouldn't expect one dealer's offer for aftermarket sales and support to translate to another. Sounds like your dealer is great. But offering that kind of service is not required for every dealer. Just like shops, some do more than others.

Yes, too true. And with that my next thought was - the OP contact JeepCares, see if they'll help line up another dealer. Sort of like the other guy here did with his alternator issue - first dealer wanted to deny warranty - you likely know the thread.
That's my personal advice- contact JeepCares, they've helped me in the past, and check with another dealer. And be honest with the next dealer, that always helps.

As we've seen, and you've seen with the other guy's alternator issue - some dealerships are either jerks or not well educated in automotive, or don't give a rip while others are more customer oriented and good troubleshooters.
I don't give a rip if the customer comes to me with no bumpers and slim trail fenders and skid plates covering the whole belly - it's HVAC and I'd look at it as an unrelated issue. But that's me. (and probably you and most people here as well)
