So if someone puts a different bumper on and has trouble with the splash shield on a Rubicon rubbing the tire (yes, there's a TSB on that, it's a warranty thing) the dealer can refuse to fix it is how this looks.

So weird because MY DEALER actually told me they'd sell me a device (Tazer mini by the price they quoted) to change tire sizes and other thing. So apparently dealers sell the devices so you can make the change.
Short answer? Yes. It's the dealer's discretion to void warranty/refuse service due to modifications. That's why most responses to threads like this are "take it to another dealer".

Something else worth keeping in mind: the problem with the Magnuson act is...how are you going to force them to honor it? If they are already being an ass about voiding the warranty, they are just going to tell you to do the one thing you can do about it: "take us to court then".

Again - I definitely don't agree with it, just trying to be realistic.

I recommend you contact Jeep and here is why..
From the site Mopar.com.. you have to register and put your vehicle in system:

WHAT IS NOT COVERED 11
3. What Is Not Covered
3.1. Modifications Not Covered
A. Some Modifications Do Not Void The
Warranties But Are Not Covered
Certain changes that you might make to your vehicle do
not, by themselves, void the warranties described in
this booklet. Examples of some of these changes are:
• Installing non-FCA US LLC parts, components, or equip-
ment such as, a non-FCA US LLC radio or speed control.
• Using special non-FCA US LLC materials or additives.
• Modifying the front bumper, vehicle body structure, or
adding aftermarket side steps or running boards.
• Replacing windshields on vehicles equipped with
Advanced Driver Assist Systems with non-FCA US LLC
genuine parts.
• Using aftermarket collision parts.
• Attaching or installing any aftermarket accessories,
including transparent material (e.g. glass tinting) or after-
market grilles.
Your warranties do not cover any part that was not
on your vehicle when it left the manufacturing plant or
is not certified for use on your vehicle. Nor do they
cover the costs of any repairs or adjustments that might
be caused or needed because of the installation or use
of non-FCA US LLC parts, components, equipment,
materials, or additives.
NOTE:
Non-FCA US LLC parts can also impact downstream or
other related safety systems.
Performance or racing parts are considered to be
non-FCA US LLC parts. Repairs or adjustments caused
by their use are not covered under your warranties.

12 WHAT IS NOT COVERED
B. Modifications That WILL Void Your Warranties
These actions will void your warranties:
• Disconnecting, tampering with, or altering the odometer
will void your warranties, unless your repairing techni-
cian follows the legal requirements for repairing or
replacing odometers; or
• Attaching any device that disconnects the odometer will
also void your warranties.

My dealer is pretty good about treating mods separately but you do need to know what you are talking about.

So they're saying the new gears are causing the odometer to count improperly, voiding the warranty by the stipulation noted in the manual which was posted above?

Whew, that's going to be a tough one to fight. Better have deep pockets.

Not if they used something like a Tazer JL to adjust the computer for it, which should show in the computer.

Some of these warranty voiced posts do make me wonder if this is really a semantics thing.

Such as:

  • A dealer refused to perform certain work as warranty but it gets interpreted as the vehicle warranty is voided. Taking to another dealer might net different results.
  • A certain part of the vehicle has been deemed to incur damage that would not be covered under warranty (engine/tranny/etc) and that part of the vehicle or warranty associated with that area of the vehicle is placed on a restriction until it has been confirmed to be replaced and it is interpreted as the warranty has been voided.
Perhaps I'm just naïve to the fact that manufacturers are voiding entire vehicle warranties on a regular basis. Given how many Wranglers have been sold and modified and offroaded regularly I feel like this would be some widespread issue that is all over every forum.

Unfortunately, most of these posts seem to be more related to bad service departments than Jeep themselves.

What dealer?

Take it to another.
It doesn’t matter which dealership I take it to. It is in the system that my warranty is voided meaning no dealership will honor my warranty. When they told me this I said the AC is unrelated to my gears and the mechanic said he agrees. It would typically be covered under warranty, but I have no warranty. To put more salt in the wound I paid for an extended warranty, though I should have been covered underthe standard warranty.

Another dealer can bring in the Stellantis regional rep. They can overturn the denied warranty.

Which dealership is doing this to you matters. It will help all of us avoid them.

Crime fighter.
Doing something about it would probably cost more than the Jeep itself.
If it went that far, I agree completely.

However, sometimes it’s a matter of the dealer being unaware, or thinking the customer is unaware, or even feeling he’s got the “authority.”

When the gearbox TSB first came out for the JLU, I took my wife’s Jeep in fully prepared to get the “we’ll have to drive it and verify” followed by “that’s how a Jeep drives” treatment. As expected, it’s exactly what I got. However, as soon as I placed a copy of the TSB in front of him and pointed out where I had highlighted the part that said “if the customer complains of wandering do the service”, he quickly changed his tune and they ordered the box and did the fix.

Whether it was because he genuinely didn’t know or if it was because I called his bluff I have no idea. Either way, I made sure they understood I knew what I was talking about and they did as I asked.

How do dealers get paid for warranty, tsb or recall labor? I spoke to jeep wave today and they said dealers dont get paid to diagnose the issue but they get paid more then their hourly rate to install or replace the part. Is this true??? Why do dealers not want to do warranty work?

My guess... The time it take to get paid for warranty work doesn't solve the immediate cash flow issues.

Is this true? I remember reading a thread on a forum where someone had their warranty voided on BS because they gave the dealership service department a bad survey. They then went to jeep corporate who told them only the original dealership had the power to reverse it.
