Well, I'm not too concerned about it. I've never had a wireless remote anyway. And I'm not going to use my phone to do it, either.

Using a phone seems like a bad idea to me too. I'm upset because I didn't have any idea the recall had even happened until I received the winch. Telling people they need to wait 20 weeks for the $100 certificate to buy a sub-par wireless replacement is not acceptable. I use wireless almost exclusively so my new winch has been in a box since the end of June.

Got my new wired only remote last month. Still keeping my original remote that now has the wired only function as a back-up. So basically I have (2) wired only remotes. Have not got the $100 credit yet though. Says approved on the site but also says 8-10 weeks from approval date before checks to be cut. Probably getting close to that soon.

What pisses me off besides the whole wireless function being gone is that I was initially under the impression that in the meantime with all the recall BS they were working on a "new" wireless/wired function remote which would be better and not have the issues with moisture, etc which was the cause of the recall in the first place.. AND.....that those would be sent out or at least be used to purchase with this coupon...Come to find out, its NOT a new remote, nor is that the purpose of the $100 rebate/coupn to compensate for....

Coming right from a WARN rep I spoke with who was nice and very informative nonetheless(not their fault). But the idea behind the coupon is to be able to purchase the "wireless hub" they offer for $79. The $100 credit will obviously cover that. Yes that gives you a wireless function, but it's not a remote with a wireless function. Point being is that even with the hub, it still gets "plugged" or "wired" in. Then it gives you the ability to use your phone to communicate back with it as the remote (of course with an app you also have to download). At the end of the day it isn't a super big deal cause I'll probably always be wired when winching anyways. But dont lead people along and then act like your doing us a solid by giving a new wired only remote and a coupon on an issue when really its only a work-around. Even with the wireless HUB, it alone had to be plugged in. Not really a wireless solution.

I went with WARN for the name and reputation. I get recalls etc. Not even mad at that fact. It's more of the way theyre handling it. Or should I say beating around the bush.
Dang, my understanding was the same as yours, thought we'd get the $100 coupon for the hassle of temporary losing the wireless functionality while they would send us a new updated waterproof remote at a later time. That's exactly how I understood it from the documents I saw about the recall/coupon.

Exactly. I read the announcement in depth and that's what I took from it. But during my process I actually spoke with a knowledgeable rep on the phone on a separate concern and they broke down the whole process and advised me of that.

The one on the left is the corded replacement remote. The one on the right was the original corded remote. I understood that you still needed a wireless module to plug into the winch to make the wireless magic happen. I never had the wireless receiver and really can't complain too much. It is just taking a long time.

I did get some feedback today from Warn. It seems that I have 3 cases open. The first was rejected for missing some information. I was never told of this. When I resubmitted the form it was sent twice (sequential web ID numbers). That stalled my request due to the confusion of two forms. I thought that was cleared up via email and that I only received 1 remote. Both open web ID's show the coupons ( check) are pending. 8-10 weeks from approval date.

Where do you buy one? I've only seen them sold on Amazon and they don't know when they will get any more in stock.
That's where I got it. Several recoveries. Works great.

I also got a super winch via amazon. some random vendor on the east coast. But it arrived in like 4 days. Perfect condition, no damage, new. For $650 or something like that. Synthetic, wired and wireless (I specifically wanted wireless as this was for the rear bumper and crawling under it to hook in a wire would suck). Has plenty of power (only got the 10K for the rear but they do have a 12K option). The one weird thing is how the cables bolt to the relocatable solenoid. Theres not a lot of space between the positive and negative connectors, so if something came loose.... would be a good idea to add some tape or something around there probably. Otherwise happy. With all the stuff happening lately with Warn - I couldn't justify going that route. Have a Quadratec 12K up front - also wireless, and I think $700? Also works good with zero issues thus far.

Honestly, for all of the recoveries I've done over the last few years, the fact that Warn has botched this 'replacement' so much, has made me rethink about what winch I'll be using in the future.

Still have the Evo 12S on the JTR, but I'm not gonna lie.. at least the Badlands at HF has a wireless option. I prefer options, and when a vendor sells a product, based on those options.. and then removes the 'options', entirely, that's what I consider a dirtbag move.

Honestly, I'd be interested in seeing if a Class action comes of this, since they originally indicated they were working on a replacement remote, and in the interim would send people the wired one so their product would work.

I could have simply resoldered and weatherproofed my old remote, and TBH, they could have easily done that too.. the fact they have chosen to take the cheap/crap way out, just irritates me.. especially since I've touted Warn for years.

When you pay a premium for a brand, you expect that brand to give premium support. So far, they've failed miserably. (I, also, have never gotten my $100 code.. but got the mediocre wired remote, already)

I guess what I'm getting at is, what if something in the geartrain breaks, or you lose a solenoid in your control box? (That has happened to me.) What kind of warrenty comes with the winch? Who would you go to for parts? At least with Warn, I have a reliable source for parts. I promise you, something in a winch will eventually break. I've had Ramseys, Smittybuilts. (This is my first Warn, and it's a Chinese Warn at that, and at a reasonable price...actually cheaper than a Badlands.) I really don't mind if I have a wireless winch controller or not. And I, too, have no need to spend $1500-2500 for a winch because I will never use it enough to justify the cost. But I will spend $550 (with rebate) for a Warn simply because I can get parts for it. And the warranty ain't too shabby, either. Hell, I bought mine before I even knew there was a rebate for the controller. Happy Jeepin' :jk:

Yeah, after I'd done my research, and when I purchased my Evo, I "assumed" that it came with the wireless/wired remote. I was wrong. No wireless. I was disappointed, but I'll get over it. Still.....left a bad taste in my mouth about the local 4x4 shop that sold it to me and installed it, and with Warn as well.

Oh I thought you inquiring for one, lol.

I hear what you're saying. The way I see it is I got into a winch with a synthetic line and a fairlead at half price. If it fails and I can't get it serviced, then I can buy a winch with a cable (cheaper) and use my existing synthetic line and fairlead. It cost a little bit more in the long run but helped cushion the initial layout for the Jeep and upgrades.

For as long as it works, and I baby it. (If it takes a single line pull I use a double and if it takes a double I use a triple.) And I always use the wireless remote that came with it and if that fails it came with a wired remote for backup.
