I have a leak around the back glass on my hardtop. Dealer found two tiny cracks on the hardtop right around the frame where the glass attaches. The top has now shown up roughly seven months later. Dealer says this will be a half day or longer visit as he has to swap the tops and then have a glass company come in to install the glass. Does this make sense? Seems like they have the glass and the top at their facility. Why would they not be able to have the glass installed on the new top and then call me for a simple 20 min top swap? It’s a decent dive for me and now a day long hassle of getting back and forth while making arrangements at work.

Uhhh...won't they be taking your old glass out and installing it in the new top?
They ordered new glass and top at the same time. The glass showed up quickly.

This might be a question for your servicing dealer.
I questioned it and was told someone would call me back about the process. I figured someone here with some knowledge or had the same procedure might know. Seems strange. They are booked until early next month for the appointment.

Did they get a top without glass?
Sounds like you won't need to come in until the job is finished and they swap tops.
Might be time to look for another dealership.

Yes got a call today that the new top is now on site. The new top did not come with glass. The glass was a separate part order which they also have on site.

Just a stab in the dark, but the top will be stronger for the glass install if it's bolted to the JT.
Ah maybe there is some flex on the top that could happen when not bolted down.

Unless they are tying to patch up the hard top or re-seal, replacing broken glass, i thought new top comes with glass intact. like the one i ordered from dealer came with glass intact.

Interesting. Makes me wonder what’s the real story.

Given those instructions you have, you received an upfit. A part # for people who bought a soft top and want the hardtop after sale. You got a retail upgrade, not a repair part.

A repair part won't be an assembly like that...just the bare minimum needed. Example...I can order a mopar steel bumper...it will come with fog lights...instructions...the works. If the dealer fixes your factory steel bumper...they'll just order whatever individual part they need.

Ya beat me to it. Consumer vs service part.

Reminds me of Mopar v Bestop Sunrider. It's a weird one. Bestop sells the Sunrider to consumers...but ships all of the service parts. You put it all together. Many people have issues.

Mopar sells the consumer part. All assembled....wam bam on.

So...Bestop OEMs the consumer part to Mopar but ONLY sells an unassembled box of repair parts to their consumers.

This is good to know. Is the price the same?

One other thought question.

I know the sunrider rarely goes on sale at Bestop.

Are there ever "all Mopar parts on sale" type sales that would include the SunRider?
