Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has had experience dealing with aftermarket warranty companies, or warranty companies denying service in general?

Here's my situation:

Bought a used Gladiator in August. Originally came form Canada, I bought it from a Jeep dealer in Illinois. Came with a CAN-AM warranty, which I was assured after my many questions that would cover the same as FCA.

Fast forward 3 weeks, I had steering issues and learned about the steering gear TSB. Also discovered that the back window seal leaks in the rain (there's a thread on that). And the keyfob covers were separating (a long shot for warranty replacements, but never hurts to ask. There's a thread on that too)

Took it to my closest local Jeep dealer here in Grand Rapids, MI. They inspect the vehicle, confirm all the issues, wrote up the recommended repairs, and contacted the warranty company. Warranty company says they need to have someone come out and inspect the Jeep - won't take the dealers word for it. An adjuster finally comes out after my truck sat at the dealer for a week, and the adjuster refused to see the water test for the leak, literally said "it's a Jeep", and told the warranty company to cover an alignment, thats it.

So now I have a Jeep with a new front end alignment covered under warranty, but with a leaky roof that now I have to cover all the leak diagnostic costs. Also no further comments from the warranty company about any further repairs - like the steering gear TSB.

Any advice on how I should proceed? Should I try to buy a different warranty? The current estimate for repairs is $3,000 ish. I feel like I'm being screwed over by the warranty company.

Since it is a Canadian Jeep, it has to go back to a Canadian dealer for factory warranty coverage. Any warranty sold by a dealer, that is not from the vehicle manufacturer, usually provides very poor coverage. Two major mistakes here, believing the dealer, and buying an import model and expecting domestic support.

3rd party service contracts are a scam. Been there done that and learned the hard way. Not much help, but agree... get it back to Canada if at all possible.

You have a factory warranty, why even mess with that coverage? It normally doesn't cover what the manufacturer's warranty covers, some don't even start until the factory warranty ends.

His problem is that the vehicle was originally sold in Canada and has a manufacturer warranty good there and not where he now lives in Ohio where they dealer sold him an aftermarket warranty with assurances he’d be covered. If I read his post correctly, the aftermarket warranty is now refusing the recall and other work so his only recourses are to pay himself, take to Canada, or cancel and purchase another warranty.
With that said it seems like FCA should honor all North America continent recall orders regardless of whether vehicle sold in US, Canada, or MX

Take it to the selling dealer and demand the repair. If they won't help contact BBB with a complaint. Simultaneously cancel the aftermarket warranty. The refund may help pay for your repairs in the meantime.

This is definitely a weird situation - even the service department I've been working with said so. Perhaps I was naive to think the warranty company would actually cover repairs, and that there shouldn't be issues with a 2020 vehicle. But I can't return the truck to the original dealer, so I guess I'm stuck with it haha :)

I'll try contacting the original dealer, but I'm not sure if they'll do anything. They have supposedly been trying to get my bluetooth speaker that was not in the truck upon delivery, but now they are ignoring my messages.

This is my first time with a warranty/ warranty repair. Are warranty companies usually this strict and difficult?

3rd party warranty companies make money by denying everything. I learned the hard way a few cars ago and will never buy another warranty that isn't by the manufacturer

30 years ago I was the service writer/manager for an oriental motorcycle dealership. Customer comes in with a European sold, military shipped bike with a clutch problem, a cracked hub. Called the US warranty center and got approval for repairs, parts and labor. The dealership wanted to 1st deny service because "it wasn't bought here at our dealership-he's not our customer" Argued with the GM and produced the authorization number. The 2nd argument was that it was a non-US model. I refused to budge. A defect is a defect no matter where it was sold and as a dealer, we are under contract to honor the warranty. Several months later I was fired. Did not hurt my feelings one bit. Caveat Emptor.

Ez care, universal and the factory extended warranties are usually pretty good. .ay be worth a call to the one you have to argue your case. They may have an appeal process.

And send the original dealer a letter, certified...cancelling the extended contract and requesting a refund.

Sounds like I'll be fighting the uphill battle on this one. I reached out to my original sales guy, and apparently he has COVID so he is off work.

I'll try to contact a manager at the original dealer, though I have my doubts how helpful they will be. I'll also plan on calling the warranty company and see how far I can go.

I was apprehensive about the aftermarket warranty, but I didn't expect things to go sideways this quickly. At least I got the truck back today, I'll be out on Silver Lake sand dunes this weekend!
