If maybe to let off steam about a bad dealership.

It amazes me the extent and expense the OEM's will go to get your business ... and the apparent lack of interest in keeping you once the sale is made. I wish I could say it is just a Jeep thing ....
The whole franchise new vehicle dealership model is now too corporate from a ownership perspective and no longer is just a small family owned affair. 30+ years ago, it paid to be loyal to a particular dealership, salesman and service department as it many times mean one dealt with the same people over and over again across a lifetime.

Nowadays, it is short term gain of getting the sale and screw you for the long term. Might be better for some who still have somewhat rural dealerships that are still out there, but everywhere else is a den of snakes.

Is the Forerunner a comparable category vehicle to a Gladiator?

Technically they aren't in the same category but practicality and use-case wise, ours covered the same role as our current Glady does. Ironically with the 2 rows folded down, I could fit more real-world items in it than I can in my Glady bed. The only reason we got rid of it is because as our eldest grew up and the in-laws became less mobile, we no longer needed the 3rd row. Then the Gladiator was announced and I was in love. We had our 4Runner for about 50k miles the experience was entirely trouble-free, not a single thing and we beat the snot out of it. Great memories in her, only downside (like the 3.6) once weight was added she guzzled copious amounts of gas. I think I averaged something bonkers like 13mpg on these modest 34s but she did have a full set of skids, bumper, winch etc.

My wife has enjoyed driving all of our rigs but the 4Runner is the only one she felt didn't make her feel like she was making many comfort sacrifices for off-road capability.

I don't think I'd get another one unless they re-invented the platform itself with some compelling features. While a great vehicle, it lacks character and personality. The Glady oozes charm. I very much appreciated what our 4Runner offered and was grateful to own one. The Glady... I mean, I'm like a 7 year old kid gaga over it. I know because I have an actual 7 year old, we're equally giddy over the darn thing daily ; )

Only recco' I'd make to anyone considering them would be like the Tacoma, skip the off-road package. Unlike the Rubicon's feature-set, TRD is like Toyota slapping a slew of sub-par Rough Country gear on yet charging an ARB-like premium. You can stomp a TRD skid plate in half. There is quite a bit more to TRD than a skid plate but you get the point, kind of silly to pay that premium for honestly cheap-ish gear. The aftermarket industry is thriving on the platform plus they are a joy to work on. Save the premium and run quality gear.

I think that's the big difference between Livingston MT and a place like Houston TX. So many people here that even if you buy a car from the same dealer every year, they don't remember you. On the plus side, if I have a bad experience with a particular dealer, I have at least 15 other dealers in a 50 mile radius I could go to.
Yep

I would not buy that dinosaur even if it's the last suv in this world

And mine is among my most loved cars. I’ve had DOZENS. I know cars and trucks. its ok tho. What you don’t know can’t benefit you in any way either. Ignorance is bliss ??

But he's right and you know it. The current 4Runner platform is a dinosaur. If you want to justify purchasing one for reliability, you'll get no argument. But feature wise, performance wise and everything else, you're delusional if you think that a 4Runner is comparable to a new Wrangler or Gladiator.

And it's OK because I do know what I'm talking about because I owned a 2021 4Runner Limited. I've also owned a 2007 SR5 and a 2001 SR5. And while they were good vehicles that required little maintenance, the features, performance and creature comforts were light years behind their counterparts.

This is an interesting thread. Our local dealer here in Livingston MT has been great to us. We deal with the owner's son and avoid the "I have to check with the Sales Manager" BS. I have a pretty good idea of what my car is worth and they usually exceed that amount. Between my wife and I we trade in every other year or so and they know that but I think we'd be treated well no matter what. The Service Manager is knowledgeable and has been there for awhile. They can get us in quickly if we need to but we work with them, they work with us. I see these guys in the local supermarket and around town. Maybe it's just MT but we do feel appreciated...
That's great to hear, I'm in Bozeman and have had 70% good experience with our local Jeep dealer over the years. Mostly okay, sometimes not. Good to have a close fall back.

Hi Wes, talk to Adam at Yellowstone Country. We've been dealing with these guys for about 12 years now, ever since we moved out here. Straight forward, no BS, and the service dept. is top notch...

I wish I had good dealers/service. I've got 3 dealers in my area. One likes to play all sorts of dealer/switcheroo games (oh it worked just fine when we tested it), one keeps cancelling your service appointment due to the lack of help (starting to believe its the dealership rather than covid) , the third is a downright thief. Had a Dodge Ram with a wiper switch issue I took to the third dealer - never found an issue UNTIL it was out of warranty then tried to charge me $300 to fix it. I happened to keep all the old paperwork and sent it all to Chrysler. Taken care of.

Gotta love all things that drive to get it. If you have to reach for it then the answer is no and NO u don’t get it. Simple as a period like the one at end of this sentence.

And?? My take away is I must be delusional because the 4 runner does matter and compare. Not all things new or updated mean it’s better. the 4 runner is special and not because it (does-doesn’t) compares in the convenient way you like as so to allow you the essential ego stroke of conversational win you believe you deserve. I get you. No you don’t get to be right. Not because I say so but because it is so. It doesn’t have to directly compare to be of any less significance or relative importance. It’s not apples to apples and the Jeeps are Jeeps. i love them as they are for all they are and they’re not.
Wanna talk about what we’ve owned? I’ll go first. I cant Accurately recall all my vehicles I’ve had. yea that many over all my years. And there’s the tj wrangers, CJ, xj, fsj, wj ect ect. So yea I’m fairly qualified to comment with credibility. Yea all my Toyotas are nice too.
I am throwing you a bit of shade Here because I know I’m not completely off base. I can’t convey tone here which isn’t as bad as it reads so…..I’ll end with I respectfully read you and see your point but I really disagree with your angle man.

Quality Jeep service is with the Specialty Shops. Mechanic turn over is lower than the Dealerships. Plus there are so many speciialty shops that do better work as well. You just have to make it through the warranty period. I think I'm going to make it. I have a great network of support shops and can do much of the after market add on myself. Then there is your choice of trim levels, I kept it as basic as I could for a Sport S, MaxTow. I have no regrets when it comes to dependability. I've been rough on it, but it still works 100%.
