Put the JT on a battery tender when not being used for more than 2 days or the batteries will fail early. Mine lasted 5 years with proper care.

Don't hang a bunch of lights or other crap on your Jeep, it looks bad. Specially if its just for show - people know!

You forgot the separate fund for duck purchases.
I do like Duck eggs very rich and tasty, but I dont have any place to raise em so buying is sorta a problem. I typically get my from a lady I know who has ducks and a pond for them to frolic around in.
Great for baking with too.

I think maybe the early batteries lasted longer. My 2020’s batteries lasted 5.5 yrs and I let it sit for weeks at a time in the summer months. Several days at a time in winter. I have three battery tenders, but I’ve never used one on it.

Maybe new owners focus their attention on upgrades, like appearance, accessories, or modifications. While those choices shape the look and feel of a vehicle, long-term reliability and safety are often determined by basic maintenance habits that are easy to overlook.

Simple routines can make a meaningful difference, such as regularly checking tire condition and tire pressure, keeping the driver’s footwell clean to avoid interference with pedal operation, preventing dirt, sand, or moisture from accumulating inside the cabin or underbody, paying attention to the fit and safety of interior components, not just their appearance etc.
These details may seem minor at first, but over time, they directly affect driving safety, comfort, and vehicle lifespan.

We’d like to open this discussion to the community:

What car maintenance tip you'd like to give to a new owner?

By sharing your advice, you’re helping create a practical knowledge base for new drivers and contributing to a safer, better driving experience for everyone in the forum.

Your experience could be the tip that helps someone avoid a costly mistake.
If they had the hard top, I would tell them to get a @Bestop Sunrider for Hard Top with the retractable sunshade. That´s an essential mod for really enjoying a Jeep, IMO.

Also, replace the batteries every 3 years, and no longer. Both batteries. You´ll save yourself a lot of headaches.

And find a way to disable the freaking auto start/stop. That´s probably the worst ting for engine wear, possibly including long periods of idling waiting for it to warm up.

Heat kills batteries more than cold though. When I lived in CO, my Audis with the battery in the trunk, so no underhood heat, lasted 8 yr before I replaced it and it was still testing ok.

Replace those little cheap plastic windshield visor supports with the good aluminum ones available either on ebay or Amazon, before the stock plastic hangers break.

Seal your rear window with 7mm silicone tubing (search the forums here) if it leaks.

Both of these ^^^^ are 15 minute, $15 fixes.

Buy a dead pedal. More than $15, but SOOOO worth it.

I *HATE* thieves. A lockable hard tonneau, or rear cap, is worth every penny.

Heated seats. If you're like me (frequent back pain), it's basically a mandatory feature. I will run the AC on full blast in the summer if I need to, so that I can run the heated seat to keep my lower back warm.

If it's in your budget, get the Adaptive Cruise Control. When I bought my JTR (used) it came with it. Normally I'm a cheap bastage, and would have never have splurged for it on a new vehicle, but since the Jeep is a daily driver through heavy traffic, I have discovered that I *LOVE* this feature. It's like having a backup driver with an extra foot on the brake just in case it's needed.

Hotheadz (or other brand) headliners work REALLY well to help keep you warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and help reduce interior/exterior noise.
