You never get stuck with a winch (as long as there is something to tie to). I actually use it more to get other people out, or even to pull my tractor out of ditches.
If the winch is a bit pricey, just carry a come along and some extra strap. I've been using these for 50 years growing up on the farm. Cheap and priceless when you need them.
