Silky saws will change your life for portable folding saws... I'd take one over my axe any day of the week for off-road/camping uses. I bought this guy years ago and it has served me very well as a camp saw and it was surprisingly fast when I needed it to clear a trail.Chainsaw or at least a cheap bow saw. Everyone carries axes but up north you are going to be happier with some sort of saw to remove trees across the trail. Maybe not EDC but certainly on any recreational drives...
You can get a cheap gas Ryobi with a soft sided case to carry everything. I have one of these bags [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y448QT7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1] and carry bar oil, 2 fuel bottles, extra chains (use sandwich tupperware - perfect waterproof and dustproof and greasy sh%t proof) and tools. A light weight 16in saw only weighs about 10lbs.
PS - totally realize that the OP is not up north...
I have seen those pruning style saws but never tried one. I'll check it out. I like that it is compact... thanks for the idea!Silky saws will change your life for portable folding saws... Even though I want to add a chainsaw soon, I'd still carry one of these as a backup plan.
I keep good bourbon at home (actually I like rye but whatever). For the pocket behind the front seat I prefer a plastic traveler holding something I can drink but don't mind spilling. Extra points if it doubles as degreaser. Windsor Canadian was what I grew up with but a Wild Turkey 101 fits the bill too!always need at least one flask of bourbon somewhere... not to drink while driving, but for refreshments after fishing/mtb'ing, or while you wait for someone bc why not. essentials.
Most of their saws are just for pruning but the one I linked is plenty long for cutting medium logs down. Since it's a Japanese saw, it's pull instead of push so you can get make some serious cuts with it.I have seen those pruning style saws but never tried one. I'll check it out.
