Certain tools when used are inherently dangerous. If used incorrectly a farm jack falls into this category. I want mine in pristine condition should I unfortunately have to use it. It's never my first option. I really like that rack you have by the way. It's always been exposed to the elements the entire 9 years I've owned it. It rode around in the bed of several Ram trucks, on a mount, attached to the outside of a truck box and it did so in the Pacific Northwest.
It now resides in Arizona, has been mounted on a Ram truck and on two Jeeps, and it still works like new. There is a very small amount of surface rust on the support foot but the rest of the jack is rust free.
A little oil now and then on the mechanism and it's good to go.
It don't seem to care about being in the elements.
