While I agree on the surface, it’s not that simple. This isn’t a theme park. It’s just outdoors. No liability. No one responsible to make it safer or not. On top of that, the anchor might have been great in the past, but sxs drivers just sit and hold down the throttle until their axles break. So how that obstacle was in the past is very different now. The bottom is less of an issue than the top now. Also different vehicle lengths factor in. I may have more easily crested the top in a jlu. But the gladiator shines more at the bottom and middle. And if there are winch points on every obstacle, too many inexperienced drivers would take that trail and others after reading on the internet that ā€œno problem, there’s great winch pointsā€. Winching is dangerous on obstacles like this. I don’t want more inexperienced drivers out there either rubber band missiles thinking they can just drag themselves up without worrying about how to drive.
I'm not arguing liability from a legal standpoint but it's a bad placement for anything longer than a sxs. That is obvious to anyone who's ever winched over a ledge like that. Any issues that arise from forcing people to unhook before clearing the crest are 100% the installers fault. Don't install winch anchors at all if you're going to put them in a bad spot. If you're intentionally putting them in a bad spot to keep the trail difficult you're just an asshole.

I've always been one to look for American made products, but lately I've been so fed up with American businesses that I'm starting to not care. While shopping for a few different things over the past year I was trying to contact and work with American companies, only to be ghosted by every last one. Zero customer support, zero communication on late shipping times, unknown restock times, weeks upon weeks of phone calls and emails with no one answering or responding, waiting excessively long for refunds on products that never shipped... all this from multiple companies. BUT, reach out to a Chinese company and receive a response the same day, sometimes even when it's 2am their time. Eager to help with questions, eager to make a sale, and quick to resolve issues.

When I vent about this on bookface I have multiple friends comment the same issues across a wide variety of markets.

So while I agree we should be supporting American businesses, American businesses need to do better.
I run through the same issues at work also in manufacturing. Doing scale at competitive cost and keeping quality is a hard thing for a lot of USA manufacturing. Usually you can only have two of the three with any consistency. Many USA manufacturing concerns for a given product are usually in the single digits with many being the only remaining and they act like that alone should carry their customer base to be repeat customers.

I replaced the windscreen today.
Original was about as clear as a sorority house window.
Hard to peep thru.
Installed front & rear class 3 hitches.
I never know which way to go, so I covered both ends.
Installed Molle panels & side steps last week.
Now, I can reach to clean the windows WITHOUT fracking #8 & 9 ribs.
Installation was painful.

I usually spend 3-4 weeks in Moab every year, so I know the trails well and have wheeled almost all of them.

While I have never used any of the winch points, Moab trails don’t have a lot of options without the winch points if winching is required.

In the end, no one ā€œrequiresā€ that someone use the installed winch points, they are free to hook around a rock or anything else they determine to be a good winch point, it’s totally up to the users of the trails to decide their best course of action. As a result, I don’t see any issue with a winch point that someone doesn’t believe is optimal…let them find one on their own they like better.

I can tell you that I have had to winched from 200+ feet away before to get a good winch point, and it’s not much fun, so would opt for a close winch point that’s not optimal and then do a second connect.

Test fitting the box and starting to wire up the electronics. I finally got my ground run from the frame where the spare tire is up into the bed. Hoping to have this ready to hit the road next week sometime.

That’s not what they’re doing in my opinion, at all. Just probably used to be a good spot. Unless they added some, there are zero winch points on cliffhanger.

I’ve had to do that as well. Extension with a 30’ strap in place of a tree saver. Gotta figure it out.

I wasn’t even winching myself, I was pulling a broken jeep up a snowy hill and needed to attach my Jeep to an anchor point to keep from being pulled down the hill. Once I was anchored, I pulled all my winch line, attached another winch line and a 30’ strap to get to the broken jeep.

that rescue took 12 hours and a ridiculous number of winch pulls…even one backwards pull on my jeep. Ran the winch line under both axles and through a D ring on my rear bumper to an anchor point, then the long, long uphill winch for the broken jeep.

Been a busy few days. Got the hood vinyl and the new grill. Did not like the 2024 grills at the beginning but they grew on me.

I like that. Was thinking about wrapping all the way to the edge of the indent past the hood vents. Is that printed or overlayed vinyl? I wonder how the topo would look cutout to show the red as the topo lines. Though I need a bigger vinyl cutter than my 12". Oh honey..... Every project needs a new tool, lol.
