Here is my dilemma. I just. Love my gladiator. But I already. Have. 33000 miles on it It just turned a year old. So I am thinking of getting. Something used cheap My wife thinks I should get a Prius. For the mileage but. I don’t know if I can bring myself. To do it But mileage is a high priority. But so is my dignity ?I also would want. A roof rack for surfboards and kayaks so maybe a small suv like a Toyota rav 4. But. What else should I consider? I don’t know much a bout sedans coupes etc I know about jeeps and sports cars This would be for. Work.

Is this in addition to your Gladiator or would you be replacing your Gladiator?

I have this Fiat 124 Spider Abarth. Complements my Jeep Wrangler perfectly!

For Mother’s Day drove it over the Cascade Mountains; a 300-mile round trip. It was a hoot and spent $25 in gas!

They don’t make them any more, but you can pick one with low miles for $20,000 - $25,000.

These are my other choices. Pick something's that's got some speed to satisfy that urge. Plus the 5.0 believe it or not gets 20-22 mpgs per gallon and the BMW gets 26 unless you drive them 140+ mph on the interstate.

Our other car is a Mazda CX-5. Through 55k miles it's only required normal maintenance, handles and accelerates well, and you can get 25+mpg if you drive a lot of highway. I've driven a RAV4 as a rental, and prefer the Mazda much more

I commute as well, not 33k a year but I do about 25k a year. If it’s all commute then that’s one thing if you are driving for work then there should be mileage, gas, and or car allowance imo...

But to answer the question it has to be something near 30 mpg or better (average). At 2.50 a gallon +\- and assuming 19 mpg in the gladiator average you spent 4342 +/- for just gas. At 30 mpg average Thats 2750 for gas. This would save 1592 in gas, or 132 a month. So if keeping the jt there’s not a lot of cars that cheap. If replacing it you have to be on the upper side of mpg cars to make a difference.

My 02.... Ive settled in the ill pay the difference category

My mother bought a Subaru Crosstrek to drive for work. It was fairly cheap and is good on gas. She loves it so much her Outback sits in the garage and barely gets driven.

It’s got a great AWD system and can haul around all your stuff on a roof rack.

PLUS it isn’t a Prius lol

I'm sorry but the perfect purpose-built car was already made and discontinued in this country.

Prius hate is funny... I had the Prius V (the biggest Prius, still the upgraded V model) and drove the crap out of it, fast 85+ a lot top speed is over 100mph. Carried bikes on a Yakima hitch carrier (kept mpgs up) and had Yakima rails installed on roof for roof rack for car carrier, 7’ Yakima Sky Box, kayaks etc.

I averaged 44mpg, I sold it with 148,000 trouble free miles on the clock.

The V is bigger and easily carries 4 full size adults. Rear sliding and reclining seats.

I loved it.

Here are some pics, although this one Isn’t mine, I had a modified mean looking V that most people often complemented. I did have the metallic pearl Lexus white is stock color, dark tint on windows, which is fantastic color for it IMOP.

Funny Story: One trip 8 hours one way, I had 4 business associates with me for a last minute conference. Flight wasn’t not worth it as time would take longer as the drive.

I had my XL new Ford Expedition loaded and ready for the trip.

The ex college football player picked the Prius for the trip!

The 4 of us are me 6’1”, ex college football player 6’6, 5’7 friend sat up front passenger, 6’3 friend sat in back.

God dude, I was on board with everything you said until I saw the pics.

The Prius is good because it's a good tool for the job. Point A, to point B, efficiently and comfortably. I can't argue with that and I will defend people who say it.

But what you've just done is raped my eyeballs and that's an experience I'm going to have to take with me for the rest of my life.

Awe, I’m so sorry... Point is make it what you want, leave it stock, but it is a great mode of transportation. It is a big car and comfortable for long drives and averaged 44mpg up to 55mpg if I drove like a normal person.

I’ve always had a Jeep, but had second vehicle for dd. I used to have dd built CIVICs originally drove the CRX all manual.

After marriage and kids had several Prius for work, Medical device rep, drove a lot, a Expedition, and a Jeep... and a Diesel Ford 1 Ton to haul stuff like my wake boat.

Ever try a VW diesel? I always thought if I traveled like you travel that'd be the ideal long hauler 200k miles in 4 years type setup.

Good luck finding something decent at a reasonable price. The used car market is crazy right now due to new dealerships dwindling inventory. Wholesalers are getting retail prices. Used and cheap are mutually exclusive at this point.
