To me wouldn't it make sense if you don't do any rock crawling and live in the snow belt to face pretty side down? That way salt and water can't sit on top and eat away at it. But then you don't have the cable part up and put of the way as much. Sure wish better way to keep tge nice 5th wheel under tge gladiator not exposed to road salt

I have 5 matching wheels and do a 5 tire rotation, so I do pretty side up.

Same here.
It's easer to know that the spare is good and has the correct pressure as you are pulling it down now and then for rotation.
In fact, when I bought my new 2022 and told them I wanted to keep my matching Overland spare - the dealership put the spare in place pretty side up.

I've had 2 JTs (on my second one now) and live in Iowa where the state and counties own all of the salt mines in the country and own stock in the companies that make calcium chloride. They slop it on so bad, your truck turns white and in Des Moines it forms puddles that are slippery as ice when trying to stop at an intersection. It's nasty stuff.

I've run matching wheel and tire for a spare on both of my JTs. The only issue is that I have to wash off the tire- DUST and dirt - when rotating. Never seen signs of salt and that sort of thing up there. It appears to be somewhat isolated from that, and generally doesn't even get all that wet when it rains.

My JT - now and then I take out a bucket of hot water, brush it around on the mat and pull the drain plug, and rinse it all off again.

Old thread…. My 2024 has the valve stem on the topside (factory generic steal wheel). I only do 4 tire rotations.

I’m guessing there’s no issues with flipping it to have the valve stem easily accessible (pointing downward)?

We’re getting ready to drive 8+ hours to Cape Code tomorrow. We were checking the spare tire pressure and wanted to ’flip the spare’ but decided against it for the trip.

My valve stem points down so I can check the pressure easily to make sure it maintains the right pressure. I will say when I off road my JT, I am not worried about damage to the spare because I drop it and leave it in the bed in case I need it. Never know what position I may be in if and when I need to swap a tire and likely be easier to pull it right out of the bed versus pulling it from underneath.
