I’ve been wondering about this. I just bought a matching rim and plan to get a tpms installed on it when I add all new tires (5 total). I was wondering how or if the tpms would react with the system. Keep me posted on your outcome.
It's supposed to start working as soon as it starts rotating.

Smart man. As mentioned doing the same as we speak. And issues with the 5th adding to the rotation? Or has it even been added in yet as far as needing to rotate?
Haven't hit the rotation yet, but don't foresee any issues.

Yep......I have the matching 5th for a 5 tire rotation and would want the spare the same diameter if ever needed.

So, how many have a 5th sensor on the spare tire? Evidently my original spare did not have a sensor so my new wheel and tire for the spare did not get one.. When I did my 5 tire rotation the TPMS went bonkers. Dealer added a sensor to the now right rear, the old spare and now that tire registers but now another tire sensor does not work, left rear. I actually dropped my full size spare to help with getting the TPMS working again. The dealer has ordered another new sensor. It has been a pain trying to get all 4 sensors to work and the spare having a sensor also. if that is even possible with the TPMS. Hopefully will find out this week. The tire guy at the dealer is doing his best to get the TPMS working again and with 5 tires/sensors!!
I do. 5 matching wheels, 5 matching sensors, 5 matching tires. When the spare is rotated on, it is read, when it's up under the truck, it just sits there. No confusion, etc.
My wife's Grand Cherokees - at least the last 3 or so have had matching 5th wheel and tire. Good thing, too, when she hit a bolt close to the edge of the tread and we ended up using the spare wheel/tire in her Jeep - and left it there. The shops all refused to fix the other - I talked one shop into fixing it as long as it was a spare and didn't see extended road use. Otherwise - we'd have been doing some swapping around or buying one tire trying to match what was on it.

Jeep owner manuals (other than the JT book) recommend doing a 5 tire rotation if you are equipped with a matching tire and wheel.
Many tire sites - tirerack and others, suggest a 5 tire rotation if you have matching tires and wheels.
Having a spare tire AND wheel that matched what was on the vehicle saved our butts at least a couple of times - including the Grand Cherokee example above.

For those who have lifted your JT, I’m curious how many of you bought 5 sets of wheels/tires. Are you rotating the spare? I never got around to rotating my spare on my JK. Just wondering if I should save money and buy a cheaper 37” tire and wheel to use as a temporary with flats.
When I bought my gladiator the dealership that I purchased it at had already done a lift kit and rims and larger tires. They neglected to replace the spare with a matching rim and tire. I purchased one through them for a spare and mounted it in the correct location. I am literally sitting at the jeep dealership now as we speak getting my tires rotated and yes I’m having them rotate in my spare.

I just completed another 5 tire rotation on my LJ this past weekend. It is so much faster doing just one wheel at a time in my driveway.

I plan to do the same when my JT shows up once I decide which wheel/tire combo I am going with long term which means either get a factory matching spare or 5 matching aftermarket wheels/tires.

Just had my last wave oil change and tire rotation done - they do 5 tire rotations without hesitations. It's amazing how much dust and dirt was on top of that spare, though.

Since my wave is done now - I agree, with that 5th matching spare, it will be a piece of cake - drop the spare and one at a time rotate them around the truck then put the last one off back up under the truck. Simple.

Got my aftermarket wheels/tires earlier this week and everything worked perfectly with aftermarket TPMS sensors.

So what’s the consensus on the ideal 5 tire rotation pattern?

I don’t have aftermarket wheels. But I have finally got the tires mounted on all 5 stock wheels. No issues with TPMS so far either

As far as the pattern I go by this …
