I bought used, my truck was a dealer demo with 2,500 miles on it. I was planning on ordering a Sport S, but my used loaded Overland was around the same price, and came with aftermarket wheels and tires.

For me, I was able to get the truck I wanted and enjoy the summer with it, instead of waiting on a new build - and get more features as well. Yeah it had a few scuffs and wasn't brand new, but that way the scratches I put on it don't hurt so much :)

I had a dealer tell me $35k was competitive, within 500 miles, on a basic Sport +S, with 20k miles, and rental.. My reply to him was screenshot of 4 other identical trucks, color, options and all, with dealers asking $29k, without even hagglin'. :giggle: Silly. Silly.

Tip #1 - worst thing you can do is walk into a dealership and try to negotiate. go into the dealership, introduce yourself, take a business card, and negotiate from the comfort of your own home with access to all of the information.

The trend of a new vehicle significantly dropping in value the instant it leaves the lot is over. These days, any desirable vehicle will hold value surprisingly well and Wranglers and Gladiators are desirable vehicles.

Used vehicle prices shot way up years ago during the "Cash for Clunkers" program. And dealers make damn sure those prices stay high. I agree there's typically no point in buying a late model used vehicle. There's little or no savings compared to buying new.
I can’t argue with this. I’ve done my fair share of deep dives crunching numbers ( not with the JT because I wanted Gobi and was in a bind last Fall) and always have found that if you can get a new “ad” vehicle from one of the high volume dealerships it is a really difficult deal to beat. The only catch is you live with the options that the ad vehicle has. I’ve bought my wife two Camry’s and a Ram and Tundra for myself this way and couldnt justify used at the time when I ran the numbers. Getting rid of your trade in advance preserves the savings if you can figure that out

Let's take a step back and look at distribution per mileage. Let me know if visual representation would be easier.

We bought our 2020 White Rubicon w/ less than 3,500 miles & 3 maths old.
All went thru our MB dealership. Seems a guy in Atlanta wanted a Range Rover in my town .
Made the deal over the phone Drove near 400 miles here. My sales guy called me w/ the info.

Wife & I went to look at it on same day. Our deal was over $12,000 less than the window sticker of over $58K. We got our sought after Jeep then .

Wife has added nearly all of the additional 2000 miles, half of that is her forest roads drivings.
She is very pleased w/ this Jeep, not so much the last three.

Let's break that down by model and miles...

Now why is that? Can anyone answer why? Statistically speaking they built more Rubicons, and Sport S, and Overland.. but why are the numbers so high?

Are people buying them and returning them?
Are {used} dealers playing the system?

What's your theory?

I bought mine used 3weeks ago. Sport S manual with 19k on the clock. Previous owner traded it for a Silverado. Had to go 500 miles to get it as that was the closest stick to me. Has everything I wanted except the hard top. Living in MN I thought it would be a must but after a few weeks with just the soft top, I’m not sure I need it.

I am embarrassed this is in my neck of the woods.
Same, I'm up in Sonoma County. Seen that atrocity on our CL the last week and threw up in my mouth a little.

The volume of low mileage used Gladiators bugged me a bit last night. I had to adjust some of the reporting methodologies to exclude probable misrepresentation, or wrongly reported numbers.

Things are still off even with normalization.

Odometer Range# of units of sale
0-100065
1000-200080
2000-3000101
3000-4000105
4000-500085
5000-600089
6000-700084

per Model, excluding noise..

Odometer Range# of units of sale
Overland | 2000-300024
Overland | 3000-400025
Rubicon | 2000-300042
Rubicon | 3000-400036
Sport S | 2000-300020
Sport S | 3000-400027

For the most part, pattern and distribution is normal - except for Rubicons in that 2000-4000 mile range.

Makes you wonder.

Further "zooming" into the data:
Query parameter:
Overland,Rubicon, Sport S
Listing Created over 100 days ago
Mileage Range 2000-3000,3000-4000

Odometer Range# of Units for Sale
Overland | 2000-30006
Overland | 3000-40007
Rubicon | 2000-300014
Rubicon | 3000-400012
Sport S | 2000-30008
Sport S | 3000-40009

The two numbers - 14, and 12 are the amount of units above the normal pattern.

Question - Does anybody know if Jeep offered any kind of major incentives for Rubicons about 100-150 days ago/ about 5 months ago?
