I just ran across this "propaganda" this week. Woman randomly attacked on a train in Chicago. Had gasoline poured on her and lit on fire:

And we had a guy randomly slaughter four college kids while they slept in their beds here in a small town. But Idaho has half the population of Chicago, so statistically it's 2x more likely to happen here.

The violent crime rate in Des Moines, IA is approximately 707 incidents per 100,000 residents (or 7 per 1,000 residents), based on recent data from early 2025. This rate is higher than both the Iowa state average (around 287 per 100,000) and the national average (around 383 per 100,000).

Maybe I should move to Chicago!

I hang out downtown every time I'm in Chicago, never even witnessed a crime. I wouldn't hesitate to take my family there

I didn't say that it's a guarantee that you will get robbed, but if you lived around the Chicago area and see it every day, you would think differently.

I believe the violent crime rate in my town is about 7. The last murder was in the mid 1800s.
Much lower than the state average of 110, which is still far lower than the national average.
My county also has a 70% solve rate for violent crime, the best in the state.
