Is the $7500 tax credit still going on? Is the 21 mile range on all electric, realistic?
I can say that I travel weekly for work so I've tried every rental car imaginable. I get Jeeps when I can, most often they are 4xe. I only get like 12-15 miles of range out of the all electric mode. Super disappointing. If you live less than 5-7 miles from work you can make the round trip. Or if you have a charger at work, you can probably make it if you're 10-15 miles away.

My wife traded a BMW X5 for a new Wrangler 4xe. I was hoping she’d get a 3.6 jlu wrangler with the 35s, but she liked the idea of potentially saving gas on her commute to work. Anyways, I think it’s pretty cool that we’re a 2 jeep house, especially since most of the cars in my neighborhood are teslas.

Of course I’ve driven the new jeep. It looks the same as you look out the window obviously, but with the different drive train, well, it’s different. I don’t really feel a power difference that the numbers would suggest, but i guess i really haven’t given the 4xe all the beans…as the kids say. Oddly, it feels heavier than my Gladiator. I know the batteries add weight, but man, my truck feels nimble and light compared to the weight of the 4xe.

All this to offer a service, if you have questions about the 4xe, please feel free to ask. I’ll do my best to answer. Since the Gladiator is supposed to come out with a 4xe option, maybe some of you fellas are curious.

I'm don't condone the 4XE, but that is a sharp wagon, I hope it works out for you.

The dealer took $11k off the sticker. The high level break down was $8k tax credit and $3k in rebates. I realize that contradicts the $7500 tax credit. I could get into the paperwork if it’s important enough. We bought from a small jeep dealer in the middle of nowhere GA. It was pretty dirty from sitting for a while. There might have been some motivation for them to move it…not sure.

Like others have mentioned, 21 miles is doable if you take it easy and jeep is empty. We did take it out of town this weekend. Loaded it with some stuff, not too heavy, and took off. I got less than 21 miles, but close, like 19, before the battery was drained.

My wife drives to work with the majority of the commute in stop-and-go traffic. 22 miles total. There’s jeep compatible chargers at her work. When she really tries, she can make it there and back no gas. There’s a button where our auto stop button is that turns on and off the one pedal drive. Using that helps recharge the batter during stoping. So…ultimately…21-22 miles is doable…but it depends.
The 7500 was gone March 2023 or so. it's about 3500 now. That's because of where batteries were made, etc. Only leased vehicles get that sort of a credit - the lessor passes along that 7500 to the person leasing the vehicle.

21 miles? Wow, we get over that without problem. Used to be 26-27 but has settled to about 24 and it's really hilly here, which kills the battery range. We'd likely get more on the flats. My wife has gotten 26 before, even on a trip that was part highway (with some hills).
speed kills the range, so do hills and wind. Gee, maybe it's because it's a brick??

The max regen really only makes it good for single pedal driving (still need the brake pedal for a full stop) - it does nothing to improve range and under some circumstances, can lower range, depending on how you drive.

We've had ours since January 2023 so it's been through a winter and a half so far. Trouble-free save for the leaky transmission - which got replaced by the dealership after they fussed with jeep a bit.

The battery still charges and discharges in hybrid mode….my favorite thing about it was a really responsive throttle and lots of torque so accelerating was fun!
Try it in 4 high auto - then it won't limit torque like it does in 2H

Then it either wasn't fully charged, or has a battery issue. Unless you are in mountains with a strong wind, that's crazy low range. We always - always - get way more than that. Even in the dead of winter, we get far better than that.
My wife can drive to town and back (about 9 miles each way) and have charge left when she parks.

Congrats on the new Wrangler 4xe.
To feel all it's got - put it in 4 high auto. In fact, you can leave it there.
In 2H the system throttles things back for traction control, but in 4HA, it lets 'er rip. It will set you back in the seat. It's absolutely got more zip than any 3.6 powered Jeep.
We also have two Jeeps - my 22 Gladiator Overland and my wife's reign 2023 Wrangler Rubicon 4xe.
No regrets. It meets her driving needs perfectly, and it's got guts enough for me to be happy with it.
She traded her 2021 Grand Cherokee with under 10,000 miles for the 4xe.

Good to know!! We have a reason for me to drive her Jeep next week at least, it will be in 4HA. And it’s great to know you have a similar situation with jeeps and it’s working out.

Yeah! I totally agree with everything you’re saying. Like I mentioned, I would have liked for her to get the 3.6 jlu. So it will be interesting to see how it performs as we move forward. On the day-to-day, I feel she meets that niche, but how will it look when we’re putting our camping plans to work?? Hopefully we find out soon.

Plus, I still have my Gladiator…so everything will be just fine!
Look forward to reading about it. Your wife made a great call imho. Smart woman. Jeep have been deceptively clever w this model. The systems integration of the phev hardware to what is essentially the standard wrangler is, to some extent, a stroke of genius.
I.e. I’m not attracted to any other phev on the market. Infact I’m turned off by them. Well I just have no interest in normal cars. (Ferraris excepted).

The idea to marry the old tech w the cutting edge tech is the stroke of genius.

And they look to be expanding this niche market dominance w the gladiator phev. Whic will be even more unique than wrangler. Bc it adds ute/tub into the list of features to go w fr solid axles, frame, no roof, folding glass and the rest. So unique.

i don’t rkn any other player in the space will have the b@lls to follow them down the road. I just don’t see it happening.

not the mainstream guys, (manufacturers).

If Ineos do a phev grenadier w a targa top Jeeps JL/JT phev platforms will have some comp.

but grenadier starts out life 800 pounds heavier than JL/JT. Or is it 600? Either way that’s a problem. For sure.

An amazing colour. And another super good looking truck. I really hope 4xe JL/JT finds it’s way to this country. I’m not in any hurry they can take their time. As long as it gets here. And I really hope they’re still doing Earl when/if it finally gets here.

It’s just the beginning of the adventure w these things.

i think there’s a huge untapped aftermarket aspect. Ie aftermarket solutions tailored specifically to solve the problems that are unique to the 4xe. Ie exchange assemblies to reduce mass and claw back load capacity. Ie physical battery hacks.

The sky is the limit!

So if I get a rental do I have to worry about charging or can I do hybrid the whole time?

Well said, and thank you for the kind words.

I understand not being interested in any other EV/phev or really any other vehicle classified as a car or suv. If it's not a truck, I'm probably not interested, with the exception of classic cars. But it's ok to me that jeep has a phev, not my first choice, but if we're going to have a phev/ev...it's good that it's a jeep. I'm also interested in what the after market starts to offer for this jeep, could be fun.

Drive around in hybrid the whole time. This whole adventure started with my wife wanting a jlu. Then she went out of town and rented a 4xe. It wasn't charged and the rental companies are unlikely to charge them. Even when it looks like the battery is "<1%" at stop, there's still battery power that provides A/C and an initial push of EV power before the engine kicks on. So just drive it like anything else.
