Will the next jeep wrangler model get smaller?

In an effort to manufacture a 4x4 with better gas mileage in an increasingly anti fossil fuel climate it seems like all manufacturers would downsize trucks and suvs to keep weight down. They've gotten too big in my opinion although Iam against artificially raising the price of fuel to make electric more cost effective.

Would it be so bad to have a JL the size of a TJ? I'd welcome it but I don't want to see the windshield sloped down anymore.

I remember getting a geo tracker in the 90's and parking next to my friends YJ thinking how big it was compared to my tracker. The jk and jl are bigger than the old Ford rangers and Tacos of the early 2000's. I think another small 4x4 like the Suzuki Jimmy would sell big here.

They won't get smaller because the buyers want large, since there are no big cars anymore. Instead, you'll see more moves towards hybrid and electric, and more devices like ESS to increase fuel economy.

I think you’ll see new products released but not a reduction in Size to the Wrangler. Maybe they make a renegade with some wrangler features and sell for less to attract new buyers?

Are you sure? Could swear I was watching Tube videos before I purchased my JT and they were all staying they were 2" narrower.
Could just be my old age.

Me thinks Jeep should have a sub wrangler model. In persuit of smaller volume, it could be simple. Shorter and lighter. In fact- not unlike mahindra- the could bring back a basic off road only cj3-5 and be done.
But they’d rather leave that door open to imports and then sue them for just doing Jeep’s job- only one better

For the Jeep Gladiator, I think it’s just the right size: the bed is a bit short but it’s more “garage-able” than a RAM and F-150, and the doors have just the right “footprint” in narrow parking spaces...

Also, I don’t think it’s possible to shrink the engine bay anymore!

I didn't know that. They look pretty close in size. Maybe it won't even be an issue if a VMT policy is put into place where your milage is taxed. Iam guessing they could even have a sliding tax scale depending on how much fuel your vehicle consumes.

My old JKU was quite a bit bigger, it seemed, than either my ZJ or WJ.

The days of the small SUV and truck are over and you can thank CAFE ratings. Nothing will come smaller than its current state and the only way things will get smaller (like Ford's new truck) will be when they come in unibody and independent suspension form. Honestly, I would not at all be surprised if the next Wrangler is IFS to compete with the Bronco given the SFA is an inferior design for anything that isn't hard off-roading and mall crawling seems to be the status quo for new Wranglers now.
