I have the Warn 12s, not one regret. I’ve self recovered plenty with it. As others have said you decrease pulling power as you shorten your cable length. I have synthetic rope and that helps for weight. But honestly I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who wishes they had a smaller winch when they are in a really bad situation. Also a good winch will last you a long time. I went with the Warn because it was actually on sale and with the synthetic cable. Personally I will never go back to a steel cable ever. I live in the great white north. This cable is amazing, doesn’t kink, doesn’t rust, easy to work with. I keep tree straps and a full recovery kit in the truck at all times. Personally I think 12k is a good size for a Gladiator carying any cargo.
