I think the NHTSB and IIHS are afraid that the Wrangler and Gladiator will break their testing equipment :CWL:.

There is a JL crash test video on youtube. A unibody is going to perform better than body on frame for absorbing the impact. Don't watch jeep crash test videos if you are concerned.

Anyone find it odd that it still hasn't been tested?
Definitely interesting!

I test drove a JL, here in Australia, and had a long conversation with the dealer. Interesting point he made, that I didn't know, is that the star rating is only for comparable vehicles of similar size/mass. As several previous posts have pointed out by example, a 5 star corolla won't mean a thing against a 1 star JL. But a 1 star JL against a 5 star Land Cruiser or brick wall is when the low rating and crushing passenger compartment shows its weakness.

Truly hoping Jeep got it sorted when they redesigned the JT, BUT with that amount of resources poured into the JL, I'm not too confident in their changing things for too much better in the JT...

here's hoping I'm wrong!

I was disappointed the JL hasn’t been tested yet, much less the JT. Hopefully soon and hopefully good results.

Just look at the pics from the train derailment... most still in decent shape, even the one on it’s lid... too soon?

I think I do not want to crash test my jt, in modern technology crash testing is a engineering at a high level, in all cases you win some and lose some due to design, materials, impact points and just plain old crash energy. The greatest hazard on the road is the lose nut behind the wheel. A engineer who torques that nut to right torque specs will be a instant millionaire.

So true about the nut behind the wheel! History teaches that we can't engineer out stupidity!

Still surprised Jeep has allowed the JL to hit such a low rating and failed to test the JT! Anyone know how much R&D or $$$ FCA spent on JL/JT development??!?

I'm still pissed at Jeep, I wanted a JL to bridge my family until the JT is available here in Australia... with two small children, I won't risk their safety just because Jeep decided to not include rear curtain airbags to help protect them and screwed up the rear seat pretensioning of the seat belts.... (nor would I want to risk broken femurs, and major chest injuries over a paltry 35mph impact with a brick wall.... So looking to buy a JKU instead at this point.

<RANT> That and the fact the soft cocks here in Jeep AU deliver JL's on 32" tires! HINT: our road rules only allow increasing lift by 2" and tire size by 1", so they just allow us to return to the point they ENGINEERED the JL for.... sighs</RANT>

Let's hope they will man up, double down, and make changes to mistakes or bad planning and re-test the JL and finally test the JT!

Rock on Jeepers!
