Looks like it would be pretty level. Will the current receiver interfere with the ball shank? If not, that is a great idea being able to use the skid plate to protect the trailer hitch in rough terrain.

Oh, I see what you are saying. shouldn’t you be able to drill a shank hole in that plate beneath the plastic? Isn’t that just part of the bumper?

The hole in the plastic bumper is for those of us with out the receiver from the factory. Then install the aftermarket receiver as shown in post #4. I debated getting one, but decided to save the $140 to replace the bumper with a high clearance design.

One thing that perhaps would make you sorry on the trail is turning radius would be a bit less, and right now you can Jack knife that trailer about ninety degrees you would lose a lot of that.
Ok thinking way outta the box and just throwing it out there, if your hitch skid had a solid receiver bar stock could you drill it and mount a ball just past edge of bumper. In other words you would have a raised tall 2” ball mounted ahead of the skid. The ball I am talking about is taller then standard so you would have more height. Just saying Bobby!…..Jack

Most trailers have the hitch coupler mounted about 18 inches above the ground.
On my stock JTR, I would have to buy a drawbar with a 4 inch drop
in order to pull a trailer level.

A trailer should be level or slightly lower at the hitch
to prevent jackknifing.
