Regearing improves it tremendously
What gearing did you go with? I'm thinking about doing this. I was thinking 4.88. I'm on 35s. I don't plan to go any bigger. I think 5.13 might be overkill for me.

The only thing really stopping me is the fact that I had the leaky axle issue before. If it comes back again, I don't want any warranty issues.

Crippled as a tow vehicle with a max tow weight of roughly 4000 lbs vs 6000 to 7000 lbs for AT versions of the same model.
While still less than the automatic, the Rubicon and Mojave manuals to 4500, not 4000. 4000 is for the sports/willys/overlands with 3.73s. That's part of why I went Rubi, just in case. I don't plan on needing that much towing capacity though. It's still more than I've ever had (my first pickup).

4.56. Iā€™m on 34s and itā€™s not bad, but I live in mountainous west Md.
you should be good at 4.88 for 35s.

Or come trade me axels and cash before I trade my gladiator in šŸ˜‚

Cold weather package does not have remote start with a manual. On the other hand AT is extra $2k, this can cover for other goodies. Honestly auto is a great transmission, stick wellā€¦ letā€™s say it does the job ok. Next Jeep will be auto for sure.

If you like manuals and are open to re-gearing it away from 3.73 sometime in the future, then I think you'll be happy. 1st gear is super low which I like personally, 6th is just a little too tall with 3.73 and stock tires.

If a manual Gladiator wasn't available I probably would've gone Chevy K-10 shopping. KISS theory.

Not sure where or want made someone think rubbery? One of the best felling, stock shifters, (Short Shift Kit not needed). Better shift feel then the Tacoma with the MadDog Racing SSKit IMO, (What gear am I in?), just a tic better then my 03 WRX but defiantly not better then the older BMW's 525i, 325i etc. I have driven heavy duty trucks with a M/T, nothing like those, Jeep picked an excellent trans, just needs a better clutch, gearing.

To each his own.

I can say itā€™s the worst clutch for a truck, best transmission for a truck. Great clutch for a car, horrible transmission for a car. Make since? The tuning is what kinda makes it annoying for me, it wants to stall as to not roast a clutch, will have to fix that one day. But I would never buy an automatic if I had the choice again.

As many have said (and have helped me understand as well), 5th and 6th are tall for my 3.73 Willys JT.

I had a 5 speed in the 98 TJ, a 6 speed in the 12 JKR, and I now I just tell people I have a 5 speed manual JT šŸ˜‰šŸ˜…

And the wifeā€™s new JL is exactly the same way but with 3.45.

Why bother, the auto comes with an option to do your own shifting without a clutch. Best of all worlds.

I have the Rubicon w/4.10 gears and stock tires. Clutch engagement point took some getting used to, but now I have the feel and know exactly when/where the clutch will engage. The shifting felt crisp and solid from day 1...so much better than the '06 Subaru Baja Turbo w/135,000 miles I was coming from. As others have stated, it's really a 5-speed unless you're doing 75 on level ground with no headwind. Also, once I found this post on recommended shift points; https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/manual-transmission-club.17084/post-717034 , my driving experience became much more enjoyable. The 3.6 needs rpms and I was used to vehicles with more torque down low. Even my 2000 Nissan Frontier with it's puny 2.4L can handle shifts with rpms just above 2K...the 3.6 needs to be around 3k before shifting. If rpms drop below 2k after the shift, acceleration is almost not possible. I do not do any heavy towing or serious off-roading, so I have no concerns regarding the "weakness" of the MT vs the AT as the MT fits my driving profile just fine.
