Actually I overheard one of my neighbour's wife say "it's ugly" when pedaling by on their bikes one day while I was inside of it putting on grab handles(they didn't know I was in there). I almost yelled out "you're ugly" but then conquered the 6 yo me, and went about my business.

That said, I wouldn't call any angle of this thing aesthetically beautiful by any measure, but you kind of have to understand going into it that this thing is all about the utility, fun, and cool factor of taking pieces (roof, doors) off and then also putting some cool stuff (winch, lift, lights, bumpers) on to customize. It's not built to win any beauty contests, or be a mantle display piece. Take the aesthetics out of your mind, and enjoy it for what it's for: venturing out into the unknown, or maybe just the less traveled, with the sh*t eating grin on your face.
It's a Jeep thing, they wouldn't understand.

I’m gonna take this as a form of the highest compliment possible.
When exiting Sting today to go into a tile store a mother and her 3 kids were coming out towards us to get in their car. I see the 2 little ones stop and stare and the other maybe 5 year old says Whoa! The mom then remarks ā€œthat looks pretty cool huh guysā€ I have a sneaking suspicion they liked the
ā€œP-40ā€ look. Anyway it was nice

I have to face it - my wife didn't marry me for my looks. (or my money, for that matter - I'm still trying to figure it out)
MAYBE she liked my Comanche I had at the time?
I also had an SX4, maybe that was it?

I get this quite a bit, it’s kinda funny. It slightly annoyed me at first, now I think it’s hilarious.

I was at a campground about 3 weeks ago and this chick and her hubby rode by on their golf cart and she said ā€œthose Jeep’s are so uglyā€ pretty loud. A group of 17-18 year olds was walking by and overheard it, one kid said ā€œbitch is just a hatingā€ and gave me a nod. His friend then said ā€œexactlyyyyā€. I wish I could have recorded the scenario, would have made a perfect commercial. In fact, it would be the perfect PR for Jeep.

Anyways, I remember when the 4 doors first came out. Same thing... everyone hated them. People said they are ā€œtoo longā€ and not a ā€œreal Jeepā€. Now they are the standard for wranglers. I foresee the same thing happening to the gladiator.

Mine is a little ugly maybe from the rear, but from the front, how can you say this is ugly.....?

Go back a few years: when the YJ was introduced the common complaint was "It's got square headlights - it's not a Jeep! The YJ must stand for Yuppie Jeep"!"

Then the TJ was introduced - it's not a Jeep because the roll cage is squared off in the back - the TJ stands for "Toy Jeep"!

Seems like every iteration has "something" wrong with it to make it "not a Jeep"!

With all do modesty, when it comes to cars I am extremely selective. I currently have a 2021 Jaguar F Type R, as well as a 2018 Range Rover. When we were deciding on selecting a "pick-up" truck I was upset with the boring look-alike choices. Then, I discovered the Gladiator and I couldn't be happier with this rig. In full disclosure, it may have an off-road encounter in the future however, we purchased it for my wife's needs at the stable where she keeps her horse. I like it so much that my wife keeps asking me, "why do you wash the Jeep so often, it's just going to get dirty at the barn?"

The answer, its even better looking clean...

I have to say the YJ was a sad excuse for a 2D Jeep. I owned a 4 banger w/ half doors and it was pathetic, especially coming from a CJ7. The straight six wasn't exactly a power house back then but I've owned snow mobiles that had more HP than that YJ.

Except for my first car (68 Camaro) I've bought nothing but jeeps. My wife buys the practical family vehicles. It's a good arrangement.

My wife was all Camaro when we met - that lasted through her 1990 t-top Camaro, then she got hooked on Jeeps, and finally the Grand Cherokee. She's had several of those.

Me - I'm for the impractical. Try hauling kids in an AMX or Gremlin.

I’m normally not confrontational at all, but I messed with a 19 yr old kid talking shit about my Gladiator today. For sport really. Basically, just entertaining myself. I had just parked at the grocery store and was walking inside when this 19 yr old kid in a beat down black 2011ish Grand Cherokee with poorly done plastidipped trim and wheels drove by and was staring at me and my Jeep. I could clearly hear him say, ā€œthose Jeeps are so fucking uglyā€œ. I don’t really care what he thinks of my 2020 $55k Jeep while he’s driving his clapped out $10k car, but that’s the most aggressively that anyone has ever hated on it and he clearly made eye contact with me when he did it. I’d already laughed it off, but by chance we happened to be walking into the store at the same and he was mean mugging me like a tough guy. He’s a suburban white kid that’s not large of stature that’s clearly trying to show off for the girl he’s with. So, being the smart ass that I am, I said ā€œyour Jeep is fucking ugly tooā€. He froze like a statue and his girlfriend grabbed him and dragged him off.

I just thought it was funny and I honestly think it was jealousy on his part. I wouldn’t have let myself get into a fight over it, it’s not worth going to jail over, but it was fun to put a punk kid in his place. Hopefully, it taught him a lesson to watch his mouth so he doesn’t do something like that to the wrong person in the wrong neighborhood.
