Ok, let me share something amazing with all of you. This spring i was focused on finishing my tube doors project and pushing Idaho Spring weather (expect anything every 10 minutes) to make my first attempt at total naked JT’ing from Spring through Fall. I’ve never pushed to give it a try until now. (Maybe it’s a retirement thing?) anyway…

Some things to note along this trail:
- a must have is a sunshade for the top (front half only) Both halves if you pack a crowd.
- doggy seat belt (for their body harness)
- stuff bagged rain cover, it saved me twice in the first two weeks.

Getting to the amazing part…
- both front sections of the hard top roof - 35 lbs.
- rear section of hard top roof - 60 lbs.
- full doors - 60 lbs. each x 4 = 240 lbs.

So the ballpark weight loss just for the doors and tops are 335 lbs !!! So if you’ve Never done the full in the buff, it is going to blow your mine, some extra air in the tires on the pavement and the cracker box carves! Note of caution for all you notable lifts and 40’s folks be gentle until you become one with your new (dare I say) “Nimble” beast on the pavement. The dirt side of this new discovery is a blast to throw around (off the Nanny buttons) definitely quicker and noticeably lighter on its feet. First pic, naked with my reworked tube doors, second pic was the first day I started the project - Bur.

Update:
I made it 31 days full naked with the JT. The over 90 degree days finally baked me out. I’ve got an Alien Shade on in the front, but the heat was too much. Ran with both freedom tops on the front for a couple of days…it helps with reflecting the heat, but in the end +90 degrees was my stop point. I’ll go back to everything off and tube door back on end of summer, first of fall.

Ain't no way the doors are 60lbs each.
Rears are lighter than the fronts, heavier than you think, if your packing them around during the unmount and mount task.

front ones w/ all the options are damn close, I hung them up last night
LOL - the weight of the fronts is why I put a blanket on the floor and lean them, not hang them.

Got to wondering,
how much do my 1998 TJ doors weigh?

53.5 pounds without the mirrors
which have been relocated.
So let's round up to 55.

How is it possible TJ doors
are heavier than JL doors
with power windows and so forth?

From the back of the room,
that's correct, Sir.
The JL doors are aluminum,
as are the hinges.
Thank you, Stellantis.

This weak old man
can barely handle the little TJ doors.
That is why it stays naked
in my garage year-round.

“Nekkid” is definitely the best way!

That said, I’ve tried the sunshade from a LOT of folks’ suggestions and hated it. Blocked the wind and lost headroom.

Regarding the weight of JT vs. TJ doors, the TJ doors are so slim that they certainly felt lighter than the JK & JT. I used to finish a mail route in a TJ, take the doors off and toss them in the back with just a rolled up hoodie separating them for the ride home. No way I’d try that with either the JK or JT - they’d be so scratched up! Those TJ doors were SO much easier to toss around.

I recommend a Spider Web Shade.
A sun blocking screen
that will not flap around.
Can be left on permanently
as I do mine.
Soft top or hard top
can be installed over it.
Front seat only or front and back seats.
Texas summers can be brutal.
This tames the burn.

I've had the JTops on my 2020 Gladiator but with my 2025 I went with SpiderWebShade, zero flapping with the JTops those straps were amazing. I get flapping some with the SWS but not bad and its really only around the cutout area usually when I get a cross wind.

That said JTops doesn't make a shade for the newer Gladiators and if they do what the did with the Wranglers I wouldn't buy one anyway. Instead of the straps they used 2" Velcor from the back of the front doors on back. My wife didn't want Velcro and I didn't know the damage to the paint as they use some special adhesion promoter.
