Ok, let me share something amazing with all of you. This spring i was focused on finishing my tube doors project and pushing Idaho Spring weather (expect anything every 10 minutes) to make my first attempt at total naked JT’ing from Spring through Fall. I’ve never pushed to give it a try until now. (Maybe it’s a retirement thing?) anyway…
Some things to note along this trail:
- a must have is a sunshade for the top (front half only) Both halves if you pack a crowd.
- doggy seat belt (for their body harness)
- stuff bagged rain cover, it saved me twice in the first two weeks.
Getting to the amazing part…
- both front sections of the hard top roof - 35 lbs.
- rear section of hard top roof - 60 lbs.
- full doors - 60 lbs. each x 4 = 240 lbs.
So the ballpark weight loss just for the doors and tops are 335 lbs !!! So if you’ve Never done the full in the buff, it is going to blow your mine, some extra air in the tires on the pavement and the cracker box carves! Note of caution for all you notable lifts and 40’s folks be gentle until you become one with your new (dare I say) “Nimble” beast on the pavement. The dirt side of this new discovery is a blast to throw around (off the Nanny buttons) definitely quicker and noticeably lighter on its feet. First pic, naked with my reworked tube doors, second pic was the first day I started the project - Bur.
Update:
I made it 31 days full naked with the JT. The over 90 degree days finally baked me out. I’ve got an Alien Shade on in the front, but the heat was too much. Ran with both freedom tops on the front for a couple of days…it helps with reflecting the heat, but in the end +90 degrees was my stop point. I’ll go back to everything off and tube door back on end of summer, first of fall.
