Apparently jeep owners are a bunch of assholes. Lol
I might resemble that. ?

Rock crawling isn't that fun. I want to go faster.
Reminds you of driving in Birmingham AL. or most other big cities?? S#### roads, slow as hell and some a## hole telling you how and what line to drive.

We used to have 3Mb from ATT, then we got fiber!
I save $2400 a year in internet/phone/tv now, and I can pay off the Jeep LOL
I told Mediacom - the one and only internet provider in Polk County unless you count DSL which is also not possible here - that I'd pay part of their plant buildout to our area.
They said it would be a minimum of $40,000 and they had absolutely zero plans of coming this direction in the foreseeable future. They said there wasn't enough business out here. Yeah, right - I drive 3 miles and see a 40 acre multi-million dollar mansion with a guest house on the property, I go half a mile to the north and see a dozen homes that put ours to shame, a new huge Victorian style home on several acres, there's a whole lot of people out here who could easily pay their price.
The problem is it's not enough money. Profit but not enough.
It's pretty sad when one company has it all with no competition.
I even spoke face-to-face with the governor - oh, she gave her speech on how she's pushing for money for getting broadband to all of Iowa and has this plan and that plan - not a bit of it has happened. Microsoft - talked to them at the state fair a few years ago. They gave a bit talk on how they are partnering with companies to get wireless broadband to all of us. I signed up for their regular newsletter and updates and for a while checked their site on the project - nothing, no news. It died (apparently not enough money in it)

It's actually not and MTs haven't been more efficient than automatics in a long time. The use of selective lockup made that whole thing a thing of the past. At full lockup the AT is going to win because the deeper OD.
And the added ratios, closer ratios for the computer to choose from, lock up mode takes place more than just on the highway when you hit cruising mode. The automatic can choose the best ratio for a given situation, and the gears actually lose less due to friction. The gear sets in modern automatics are very different in efficiency from what they used to be. Bearings in more places.
The 9 speeds make it even better.

Even you called them abominations.
My Jeep-

Pretty good looking.

Me, not so much. You could post a picture of my 'abominable' face an ridicule me.
I would but the mods would definitely bounce me for inappropriate content.
cool is that your key fob storage? ;)

With everything going on all around the world, jeep enthusiasts find the time to name their jeep a cutsey name and start a lengthy thread plotting out their "build" in which they bolt on expensive parts and then a bunch of other enthusiasts join in the slumber party and talk about about their jeeps name and their "build". I saw a cutsey gladiator on Facebook once that had a jurassic park theme and another with a star wars theme.

These obsessive traits aren't limited to the jeep community. It's a sign of something though ;)

Another one,
I don't care that the key fob stabs me in the leg sometimes or is as big as my last flip phone, I haven't woken up a whole campground or remote started and gassed my garage when tying my shoes yet. My Taco remote start would activate if I looked at it funny. One advantage with the Tacoma, there's so many of them that when the horn goes off in a campground @5am everyone thinks it's theirs...

I don't carry a high lift jack anymore. I don't have a winch anymore. I do have a more power puller. That's a trifecta!
Add a land anchor and you're good to go. More Power Puller and a land anchor saved me from a very expensive tow and paid for themselves already. If you only want a winch for emergencies this is one way to go.

The MT technically gets better highway EPA mileage on this platform, but the auto gets better city. However, effectively, it's a wash for JTs. It's nothing to write home about. Both get 19 overall. 17/22 auto vs 16/23 manual.

My last car was a 2019 vw. Same deal there, the manual got slightly better mpg. Before that, I had an STI, which is manual only, but before that, I had a 2016 Challenger. The auto got better mileage there, by 2 mpg on the highway.

I know there's much BS in all the gas mileage threads, but I never notice any disparity between auto and manual in mpg there either on this platform. I think they're pretty much at parity on JTs and JLs.

The AT are great but still looses here due to parasitic drag. Even at lockup its still running the pump and the eight speeds have a LOT of planetaries and clutches each contributing their bit. None of this matters much with the JTs wood pile drag coefficient though.
It's most certainly not parasitic drag and you have probably similar rotating mass with the gear shafts that are constantly spinning as you do the planetary assemblies. In the grand scheme of losses in these bricks, the losses in the transmission are a rounding error.

You can't really just look at EPA numbers and call that a day. The tests have an average speed of like 50mph or something with bursts up to higher speeds but I can guarantee if you took both on the freeway at 70 you're going to see better out of the AT. There are definitly conditions where the MT will be more efficient but the AT will win out at higher speeds you will see on any average freeway.
