I had issues even getting the over that little lip the RCVs have. Gonna run them like this for a while. Will probably switch to Dynatrac
My Dynatrac ball joints needed to be rebuilt after 6 months, then toast again 6 months after rebuild. Everyone swears by them. Maybe I truly just got a bad set. Dynatrac warrantied them.

???.

For the money I would be a little frustrated…. My expectation bar would be higher than 6 months.

I ran terraflex ball joints in my HD44 build and they worked out ok…. I was pretty rough on our JKU but they still would make it a year before I would have to adjust them.

Curious- what size tires? (What’s the total weight?) I understand that there are people out there on jku’ Dana 30’s running 37/ no issues, JT guys on 40’s no issues. To me it’s still a weight game… weight and wheel offset. Once that scrub radius is pushed say 3.5-4.25” back spacing the force out on the knuckles, ball joints and steering components is amplified…

For how I drive and the things I go through….. once the axle is trussed, rcv’s are in, I won’t go over a 37/38” tire with a combined weight of 110/115 per corner. I have seen guys with 60’s still snapping parts on 40’s (usually nittos and heavy bead locks….. but still…)

All of this is past experience and my opinion ? everyone can do what they do….

I would be too.

The Teraflex ball joints are great nothing against them just wish the would work better with RCVs. I like them I just don’t want them to rub down the cover to the point then begin to leak. I run 38” Patagonia’s for a combined weight of 125/corner. Kinda heavy but I just use the truck as marketing and to haul things to the job site, only run on extremely light trails here in SD nothing big, no crawling. I have a set of Reid Racing Knuckles on there already because the Rubicon aluminum ones are not the best IMO.

Looking at the pictures. Looks like anyway you position the ball joint. It will still rub on the boot.
I dunno, the boot itself doesn't move, it spins in place. It looks like if the zerk was clocked differently (from the 7 o'clock position to 5 o'clock if you will) there would be no interference. That's easy to say from my armchair 1000 miles away of course....

The ball joint has 2 ports for the grease fitting. From the pictures, it looks like the boot is rubbing on both of them. The ball joint is in the proper position from looking at the instructions.

You literally are running what I have in mind. I have the knuckles in my garage, have the ball joints and then RCV and lockers to buy.

I’m going to pull the wheels off again today and retorque the castle nuts, I need to find the specs from factory, maybe the Teraflex torque recommendation is off? I followed the instructions…15/55/33.

*edit Teraflex specs match factory.

They look to be pressed in correctly as well. @TeraFlex please respond to this.

Yes, @TeraFlex, please respond. I have these exact ball joints in the garage ready to be installed. Thanks to the OP for letting us know about the RCV interference. I guess mine have to be sent back....

Ok so I took everything apart AGAIN…
I retorqued the knuckles according to Teraflex instructions again and I still got the same results. I was hoping maybe they were not torqued correctly the first time or maybe my mechanical torque wrench was off so I used my friends insanely expensive digital torque wrench and I still got the same result.
So now I’m going to drive around like this until I get replacement ball joints and new boots from RCV and then have to take everything apart again ???‍♂

Have you fired off emails and photos to both RCV and Terraflex?

There are a lot of JL’s with this combination and I haven’t found any other complaints like this…. Something is off/wrong.
