I was traveling from Florida back to Dallas in the middle of the night. I was down to fumes. I pulled into a gas station that had 4 diesel pumps…three of them didn’t work the last one did. You put the fuel nozzle up against the flapper and the flapper will not open. I didn’t know it at the time, but the dealership gave me a small black plastic funnel and ultimately it’s supposed to be used for fuel nozzle if it doesn’t activate the flapper door.
I thought it was to help when adding DEF, but your situation make more sense , especially considering I ended up using my funnel to help add additive to the fuel... a delete is in my near future, just waiting for my pack of plastic blind rivets to come in before disassembly begins.

Congratulations, you just came up with a solution to something that I can't even determine has a problem. I've never, ever had the issue, but then again I know that green is diesel and I don't grab that one.

I fill mine slowly. After it clicks off. I can add about about 3 gallons too. I've actually put 17.5 gallons in the tank.
same, without taking the insert out

Just because it's green doesn't mean it's diesel. For 99% of the pumps out there, that's the case but somehow at least one BP in South Dakota didn't get the memo. They put good old regular unleaded with a green pump handle.

That would piss someone off if they thought they were putting diesel in.

I must admit that Jeep's "nanny" device on the fill neck saved my ass. I cussed Jeep up one side and down the other for that thing for a couple of minutes until I actually noticed that it was for unleaded. I've been driving some sort of a diesel for twenty years and it's the first time I've had this problem.

Yep. I was headed back to Washington from a family reunion in Iowa last summer. The station said it had diesel so I pulled in and grabbed the green pump handle without paying attention. I did find the diesel pump out by itself with a black handle.

Hope you didn't pump any. Had a friend pump 4 gallons of diesel into his bike. LOL There was over ten of us getting gas at at the same time. Jon didn't feel like waiting and grabbed the nozzle and started to pump.

No, I didn't pump anything but It's only due to the device on the fill neck otherwise, it would have been bad. I was in a hurry to get back on the road so more than likely I would have filled up and hit the interstate only to have a very expensive repair bill. It's the only time I've ever run into this but safe to say that I look to make sure it's diesel now before I grab the handle.

When pulling into a station that I haven't been to before. I look for the green nozzle on the pump. Once at the pump, I make sure I got the right one. Heard too many stories of grabbing the wrong nozzle.

You have to remove the insert to fill off fuel cans which I do regularly or try to pour it into the POS funnel that I already lost along the way.
Now you just pour the can in. Easy peasy.
Before it was seriously a disaster.
