I've been trying to get this done all afternoon. I even pulled the filler neck and took it to the bench and I still can't get that damned plastic sleeve to come out.

At this point I'm ready to give up, having scraped and damaged the neck (even chipping the plastic) due to slipped tools. I even tried making a notch spanner out of a hose clamp to press both sides in at the same time.

Congratulations to those who could get the parts separated, but I'm already in the hole on broken fender clips and am shopping for a junkyard filler neck. I don't know what it is about my truck, but that inner collar isn't coming out unless I cut it apart.

Anyone have a line on buying just the plastic collar insert? It seems to only be sold as an assembly.

Don't feel bad. It took me a while to do mine. I even gave up a few times.

You have to buy the whole assembly.

I chipped mine but got it done. Maybe if someone offered an aftermarket complete assembly without the discriminator they would sell???

Try this. It's easier without damaging the neck insert. Plier or whatever that fits in the neck. Using the ends of the thread as leverage and turn it counterclockwise.

Edit: Once the tabs break loose. Lightly reinstall the gas cap and pull it out. It might help to beveled the edges of the plastic tabs in counterclockwise direction.

My filler neck was also glued to the hose, so I suspect there's adhesive between the metal and plastic.

I've done enough damage and have reinstalled it as-is for now, I might get a replacement on standby and try again at some point, but I'm done with it for the time being.

Yesterday, I came across a gas station that had the big rig nozzle on the pump.

I've done my Gladiator but not the wife's Wrangler. Of course last time I drove her's, it needed diesel. The first place I stopped didn't have a small nozzle, so I had to go down the road. Fortunately the Wrangler still had a quarter tank of diesel or I'd of really been sweating it, before the next station.

Probably gonna do her's and get these diesel only sticker/tabs for it.

Here's a picture of a big rig nozzle on a regular auto fuel pump.

I got mine figured out today, thanks to this thread. However, I took a nick out of the insert in the the process. Still fits, but I wish I could replace it without buying the whole filler neck.

Great thread! I did mine today. I used the wire strippers, it rotated easier than I thought it would. I had to rotate it a little more than 1 o'clock. Then I put the gas cap on and pulled it out.

Once on the bench, I used a screw driver on the side of the tab that holds the restrictor in and pried up. Did that to all 3 and reinserted the fill neck back into the JT.

I have and use a fuel card for discounted diesel through OpenRoads and you can only get the discount at the big rig pumps at truck stops. I use it for the Diesel Pusher and now can use that for the JT as needed.

How did you remove the entire assembly from the Jeep?
