Not sure if there was ever a change in design or sealing of the fill neck to the rubber tube? Im swapping inner fenders and was trying to pull the whole thing to access it (channel lock method did not work) but the rubber won't budge from the fill neck at all. i ran a pick around the top part after loosening the hose clamp. i've tried to twist the rubber off the metal and it won't budge. it's as if it's sealed together.....

not sure if anyone else has ever encountered this?
I ran into the same issue when I was trying to pull mine apart. I couldn’t get it to come out of the top with pliers/a pick (still can’t) and when I pulled the fender liner to pull the whole assembly out, I also had what appeared to be the filler neck sealed to the rubber hose.

So, as of now, I’m still running around with it stock. But I’d really like to get it out before a cross country trip this summer so I can use my discount diesel card.

I'm in the same boat. Did the same things, and got the same results.

Try spraying some WD40 between the rubber hose and the filler neck. Work it around with the ice pick. That may help loosen the grip between the two.

Did you try using WD40 yourself and get it to work?

Got it. You gotta pinch just the rim and twist slowly rocking it till the tabs go in then pull out. There is a rubber ring around the piece so you gotta work it out.

I finally got that bastard out. :like: Had to use muscle and a different position with my channel locks to get it out. Once I got it to turn inside the neck. It started to come out. Had to turn it about 90 degrees.

Yea I was surprised at the pressure I had to use to get it out. Glad you did it!

Well, I just tried again and totally F'd up the plastic rim and broke a piece off. Anybody know the part number for this piece? I'll just order a new one and mod it before I break out the old one. Grrr....
