Was camping the Smokies a couple of weekends ago and the campground required that portable showers have a catch basin. They are probably more worried about odors from dish cleaning but it started me looking online, apparently the Australians are still leading the way. I know there are some DIY options out there but wondered if there might be a domestic source. It is just over their postage limit for international shipping.

Anyone run across something like this:

With my setup space is limited, I may have to go with a repurposed item but would like a collapsible option.

Okay, outside of the box thinking. You could build one, some type of liner/tarp that you could install a hose bung into with this water dam. The dam has adhesive on the back, so could stick the liner to it and I would advise a series of small clamps to hold it in place. Only hiccup I can see is holding the two ends together.

I may have to go that route, or get my wife to put that $8000 Bernina to good use :)

The Drifta just packs up real nice. Seems like a nice option that should be available in the US.

Curious…what do they expect you to do with the water that builds up in the pan?

This always cracks me up. You can swim in water, lakes, etc and no one says you cannot do it. You can wash off the bottom of your shoes when you get done hiking. Your dog can pee all over the place. You can dig a hole and pee and poop in it.

why is dumping gray / shower water on the ground is an environmental disaster (since a lot of people even use special soap) but dumping herbicides , pesticides , road salt , chemical fertilizers and deicing chemicals is okay.

Of course, dont take a shower so long that you start creating a pool that wont absorb it.

So, you shower and then release the water? Theres no way you could pick the pan up and transport to ?? who knows where, and release the water. I live near the Smokies, didnt know this was a thing now....I use a bath house most of the time

I think it is all about keeping the wildlife out of the campground. Like I mentioned in the original post its probably more about the RV's with outside connections and people washing their dishes in the campsite. They wanted all wash water dumped at the bathrooms. Cataloochee Campground

We had several elk walk through and I am sure a few bear have visited.

I think the intent is to drain to a transportable container.

We actually used a short bin (clear plastic clothing bin) in our CTC one night for a quick shower. We had the porta john and supplies in it so dual purpose....just an idea
